I had been using my PS3 to watch netflix, youtube, etc, but it has recently crapped out. I'd like to get something to stream movies and shite without paying a fortune. The Roku seems to have better reviews, but doesn't seem to have all the options that Apple TV has.

Any suggestions for these, or others, would be much appreciated.

I have a Roku with the game controller. I'm about to add Apple TV. Number 1 reason is apple added HBO Go and Watch ESPN. Roku doesn't have either for me since I have Comcast.

I just got an Apple TV yesterday ($60 brand new in box).

Haven't set up yet but I'm looking forward to the Airplay feature as well as the netflix, hbo go, espn, etc. Did away with cable...not worth it imo.

The only reason I can see getting the roku is if you primarily use Amazon instant instead of Netflix because the Apple TV doesn't have an app for it and I doubt they ever will.

I would look at the OUYA or Raspberry Pi and load XBMC on it.

Same here, was gonna ask something similar to you.

First on Apple TV, do you need a newer model to get HBOGO or is it just a software DL on any version?

I also used my PS3 to drop movies on it I ...ahem downloaded... and watch them through it. How do I do that without PS3 in the future?

I do have an iPad but I don't have movies on it. Could I DL movies to iPad and then mirror it to Apple TV?

AppleTV

The UI is better and syncs with all your apple products (if you have any)

Just an FYI. You can mirror an iPhone and iPad with a roku. There is a roku app that allows you to do this. I found the roku connects better in my house. It will be different for everyone. Just go with the one that has the options you like. I also like the roku 3 having the ability to plug headphones into the remote. I can do this while on the treadmill and watch old shows to catch up on.
