Look at Garrett's scores. He about 4.8 in 40, as was Teo at the combines. I see Garrett's press and his stars, just like everyone else. Those ratings must be despite not having exceptional speed. As I recall, his overall SPARQ #'s are not in the top half at Opening, although that is top level competition.

3. Clifton Garrett, LB, Plainfield (Ill.) South – Though he is extremely physical, Garrett was a smooth glider in space, defended tight ends extremely well and can flip his hips with ease.
Don't give a shite if he runs a 10 second 40, he can hit like a freight train, and can cover with the best of him. If we look at strictly measurables Kevin minter didn't deserve to have an offer from LSU, thankfully coaches do more than look at measurables

Another dumbass who thinks 40 time is the end all be all to football.
How about Terrell Suggs dominating college and pro ball with his 4.84 forty speed. Or Jarvis Jones and his 4.92. Kevin Minter ran a 4.8 and he was the best linebacker in college football last year.
Once players put pads on their actual speed is shown. Plus you're forgetting to consider that improper technique can lead to bad 40 times even when the player is much faster. A lot of factors are more important that 40 speed. Hell the best wide receiver ever in football only ran a 4.7

I see Garrett being one of those linebackers that will take control of games. I just think he will be a star in college. And Speedy looks like he could turn into a Tavon Austin type receiver.
I like the possibility of Jennings throwing to a Tavon Austin type guy when he's not handing it to LF.

Sorry, guys.
You can use all the catch phrases you want, but you can't "hit like a freight train", if you don't get there in time to make the tackle. And no one says the 40 is an end all, be all,as fantasized by one poster.
Here's another old sports saying: "There's no substitute for speed".
Garrett may be a very good LB, but his meaurables aren't supportive of his current rating.
If he Notre Dame as his first choice, many here wouldn't give him a second glance.

Offense CR. Rarer and more important than any offensive player in the class (that are realistic options) including LF. We've had great running games without LF. Always take the franchise LT unless a franchise QB is there and Harris is not that
Defense Garrett. We'll get some good DL and some great DBs but Minter showed us how important a stud MLB can be in our defense. I personally don't think any of the 4 DL we're likely to land are huge impact pass rushers so I give the nod to Garrett. 2nd would be Godchaux to me. I think he's the best DL we'll land including Willis.

This is the correct answer. Dominant LT. Game changing DE.
That's not to say that Brown, Garrett, Hootie, Speedy or any of the other guys won't be all sec or all American players, but these guys play more important positions.
