I'm not sure if anybody is like this but this is the only time I can get into soccer. I don't have a team I root for, MLS or otherwise, and I can name one player on this planet. Messi, and I couldn't spell his first name without looking it up. I can't watch friendlies either. They nearly seem meaningless regardless of the outcome. At the same time whenever the Confederations Cup and the World Cup rolls around I find myself watching it quite a bit.
I have no idea the strengths and weaknesses of the teams but I know I'm about to watch this Brazil vs Spain match-up. I know Brazil is a historical (and I assume current) power and Spain has been winning everything they're in lately so perhaps that adds to it but I know I find myself rooting for the U.S. hard when they get in the World Cup. From what I hear from my friends that are into soccer that the U.S. isn't close to being one of the world's elites but they sure as hell on their way up and are becoming a more and more dangerous team in the World Cup?

I was like that a few years ago and am living proof that this affliction be overcome...

I was like this originally. Just watched USA stuff. Friend convinced me to start following a club team, and now I'm hooked.

I've been following club and national play all my life.

I can only watch soccer when it's between countries, especially when the US is involved

Club ball is way more exciting.

I LOVE the World Cup.

How often do you try to watch club teams? If you haven't watched any or don't very much, just try to watch every once in a while and see if your opinion changes.
My parents always watch the WC but I watched every WC 2010 match that I could (I am only 16 so it was the first time I actually paid attention too) and I liked a couple players and then tried to watch some of their club games to see what it was like. Now I've become a huge Chelsea fan (along with Sporting Kansas City), mainly because of Didier Drogba.

I have wondered this, do the international players get paid anything for all of these friendlies and WCQ's? Do player's from Spain/Brazil get more than maybe say a Jamaica/Costa Rica?

I was like this when I first got into Soccer like 12 years ago but over time you start to learns more about the game and the players and you find out that club soccer is where it's at.
I still like international soccer but it's sort of like in basketball: what's more important to you, your NBA team or the USMNT? Most would say their NBA team.

I like it when it's planet vs planet. Those pussies from Mars won't play us though.

Once you start watching club teams, you realize how much better the game can be than when watching only the national teams...
Also to boot you'll no longer be a fair weather soccer fan such as you are now.
