I was top three in the Grand Prix

hmm i dunno what the grand prix was. i got up to #4 in the state when i was 18 years old in the usta rankings. top 2 got scholarships to lsu so i could have probably walked on but i was kinda burnt out and partied too much when i got there.

but i went to southern tournaments in the same field as robby ginepri and although i never was on his side the bracket and played him, the last tournament i was at my friend played him and lost something like 6-3,6-4. Ginepri went pro the next year.

we might not take one off of serena but i think we could have taken a game off a woman "pro"

Grand Prix was the old state juniors circuit. I am way before your time if you played with Ginepri. The big difference was that LSU was super strong in NCAA tennis back then. At least half the team was Borg look-alikes from Sweden. I went to the walk on tryouts and the guy who was #1 on the state had just finished trying out and was invited to the practice squad. I skipped the tryout and went to Murphy's. Haha.

My read of the OP was that we were talking about the top women pros and not just someone on the Tour. Never the less, I stand by my experience. They really are better than you think.
