Why not include the camera and drop the price to $449? Still 50 bucks cheaper than Xbone. How large is the segment of gamers that would pay $50 dollars more for an Xbox but not 100?
Because the camera bundle also had a game they dropped
They may still sell it soon but this was going to be the original $500 bundle.

Maybe they realized that motion sensing cameras weren't what we are looking for. Maybe they are being smarter than Microsoft. Maybe. Just maybe.

Or maybe they sacrificed a lot of their original plans to appease as many people as possible because they are in a financial crisis. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I am not going to deny that Sony is financially motivated to come out on top here. I'm sure Microsoft is, too, but Sony has a lot more pressure to do so.
And I'm not going to deny that they want to appeal to as many consumers as possible, which is a viable tactic to sell, sell, sell. But you cannot deny that Microsoft has pretty much been the best player on Sony's team up to this point.

No doubt they did the opposite of what MS has done because they saw how poorly the other way worked out for MS but at the same time MS did a HORRIBLE job relaying their message. Things might have been different for both had MS not messed that up. Who knows now.
I just hate that once again both consoles are pretty much the same. Nothing new and exciting IMO besides slightly better graphics and 64 man BF4 games both of which have been on PC for years.

Good move to sell camera in other bundles and not make it required. When kids ask their parents for a console, they'll see both consoles are basically the same, but one is a hundred bucks cheaper. Easy $ for sony

I think Sony made this whole story up.

i read that yesterday, more impressed they kept the actually price under wraps and not tipped their hand to MS

Thankfully so. Motion games have never been appealing to me really. If I'm in the mood, sure some Wii Tennis is fun, but to have all my games force some kind of motion in them is just too much. To me, you'd almost have to develop games with two modes, one with motion and one without. What if I'm up at 2 in the am with a sleeping wife and baby in the house? I'm sure as hell not going be jumping all around. It's cool, but to me it's a bit of a novelty. Almost every one I know who has or got one said they hardly use it anymore.

i could careless about a camera or motion gaming,
my old roomate had the move and we tried to play killzone 3 with the gun, i fricking hated it.

Don't forget the PS4 controller retails for the same as the xbox one pad, despite having a mic, motion sensor and touchpad that the xbox pads do not.

The PS4 controller has a mic?

Of course, by microphone, I mean speaker.

I disagree about the consoles being the same. They might have very similar hardware, but their software designs and intentions are much different.
Xbones entire structure is based on utilizing the Kinect and had a major focus on media with the whole Cable pass through and whatnot.
The PS4 has motion control, but isn't driven by it or completely focused on it. To me they are much more focused on just playing games.
This is a big reason I'm leaning towards PS4. They're not forcing you to use/have on the Kinect just to play games and any of the extra media capabilities that I just don't need. 100$ off the top is pretty awesome too. I know I'll get the oh but 100$ isn't a big deal for something you could have 5-7 years, but when you don't have a ton of extra play money, then it does.
On top of that, I feel like the PS4 will get more out of their hardware than the xbone will. You have to think Kinect and all of the other media options will take away computing power. Sony doesn't have/need all that so to me all of the RAM will go straight to gaming for a better performance
