Everyone sees Nic Cage as a joke and a punchline these days. I don't think he is (currently at least) overrated.

As for Will Smith, he has had several turns in fantastic parts, including his first major movie: Six Degrees of Separation. He is an actor that can make difficult characters and scenes seem easy. He is always at least part Will Smith, but he does a good job of creating a character. In Ali, Pursuit of Happyness, Seven Pounds, and I Am Legend, his performances are very real, very difficult to endure. On the other hand, he can play comedy and action well. I just don't think any of those performances were that great. Granted I haven't seen Seven Pounds, so I may be wrong in that regard, but he just serves the absolute minimum on what the script and the director ask from him.
