Bale was in Empire of the Sun when he was 13-14 I think. Then was in Newsies and Little Women just a few years later.

Nope. He was a great actor out the gate. Dicaprio was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Gilbert Grape.
Dear God! You must have also missed his wonderful roles on Growing Pains and Roseanne. Not to mention his stirring performance in Critters 3.
