I don't think Dell and Monty care that much about this draft class to grab a 13th pick with the 6th and why should they? Unless they really like someone late. Or if they want to flip the pick and package it to move up if Len drops to 4...

I don't think they're particularly enamored with the draft class either, but the possibility of filling a major roster hole for one season and getting a long-term prospect at that same position is intriguing.

Marion plus Shabazz at 13 means we have plugged most of the major holes on our roster. Our last remaining hole would be a backup 2, if Monty and Dell are still sure that Rivers will be a point rather than a 2.

To increase assets. Even if this is the worst draft in the last 10 years I guarantee you there will be at least 2 quasi all star players picked between 10 and 25. The rest may all be busts, but if you have the proper scouting and development, you can most definitely find a gem at 13. The question is what's better long term?

1) A fading star like Iggy
2) A potentially rising star you may have to throw the max at like Pekovic or Jennings
3) Use cap space and small assets for a mix of mid level guys like Gortat/Chandler
4) Use cap space to get a stop gap veteran and the #13

I don't think Marion and #13 would be Demps' first choice, but we don't know how realistic he thinks options 1-3 are. I think Option 1 is a bad idea because Iggy's only coming here for a 4 year deal and that contract length just does not line up well with Davis getting his 2nd contract. I think Option 2 is bad because neither are worth a max to the Pelicans and I honestly don't think Pekovic is as attainable as most do. I kind of like Option 3 depending on what kind of assets we have to give up to make it happen. But if the price of Option 3 is too high then Option 4 doesn't look too bad. You pick up an asset and get to try this all over again next year.
