People are overhyping it by claiming it is the best comedy of the year, the best comedy of the past several years, or one of the best comedies ever. Give me a break.

Nice reasoning for saying it's a stupid fricking post. You disagree with me so what I say is stupid.

I think you're missing what made it a stupid post. What you're saying is that people who think it is the best comedy of the year or of the past several years are incorrect. You're calling a personal opinion incorrect because you do not agree. That is what makes it stupid. Didn't think I had to spell it out but there ya go.

As for you, Dr RC, if someone says classic comedies followed by "from Caddyshack to Caddyshack 2," you can pretty much bank on the fact that adding Caddyshack 2 behind Caddyshack is a goddamn joke.

not really

the rest of your post was completely serious.

I don't know you. I don't know what you like.

I know people who think Norbit was one of the funniest movies ever.

So how am I supposed to tell you are being sarcastic when nothing else in your post would lead a person to believe that?

Sorry for peeing in your Cheerios brah.

If they really felt that way, then whats the problem?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. There are definitely a number of scenes that had me laughing my arse off. But it is a pretty disjointed and poorly made film. It's mostly them just sitting around doing stupid shite. Again, it's funny, but it's not the funniest movie I've ever seen like so many people on here want you to believe. And if it is the funniest movie you've ever seen, I recommend you take a look at some of the classic comedies out there, from Caddyshack to Caddyshack 2.

I agree with most of that, and have said the same thing several times. It was pretty funny and I enjoyed it a lot, but it was easily overhyped on here and I went into it expecting a lot more than it delivered.

And btw, reading through the thread now and seeing that it's been discussed...here are some comedies that I think were as good as TitE, or better, in the last 4 or 5 years:

Step Brothers
Role Models
Hangover
Zombieland
I Love you, Man
Hot Tub Time Machine
Ted

Close:
Drillbit Taylor
Extract
MacGruber
Bridesmaids (fist 2/3 of it anyway)
The Muppets
21 Jump Street
The Watch

Some more than others obviously. And it doesn't mean that TitE isn't good, because it definitely is. But everyone is jumping all over the OP, and I actually agree with most of what he's saying.

Why should people stop expressing their opinions? That's the reason for the backlash. He's telling people to stop hyping (I.e., expressing their positive opinions of) the movie because they don match perfectly with his. If people enjoyed the shite out of it and think its the funniest movie in the past decade, that's great. Why should anyone tell them to stop talking about it?

Obviously anyone can express their opinions, and even LTM isn't telling them not to. But I get his point about the movie being overhyped on here, and that it raises expectations for someone going into it and that can dampen the movie for them. I say that because that's exactly what happened for me...I was pumped about the movie and feel like I had my expectations in the right place, but the more I saw and read on here about how it was the best comedy in years (or ever, and multiple people were saying that for sure), it got me even more pumped about it. So when I saw it, even though it was good, it was disappointing for me based on what I had heard.

You have Drillbit Taylor as "just as funny" and 21 Jump Street as "almost as funny"? Not to mention role models and MacGruber. That can't be serious.

No. I said close. I enjoyed all of those movies. But "Close" means that they're not as good as This is the End.

Role Models was great IMO. I loved that movie. MacGruber I just watched for the first time a few days ago, and I liked it.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I enjoyed it. It wasn't so much funny as it was entertaining for me though.

Most of those films were from 2009, and 2009 was a pretty good year for comedies, which is why I stopped at 2010. I liked Zombieland and Step Brothers more than this, but it was still great. I don't think Ted holds up that much on a second viewing, but great first viewing.

Yea DT, Extract, MacGruber, Muppets, and the Watch sucked IMO.

I would also add 21 Jump Street and Pineapple Express up in the first group and probably drop Ted down.
