Not only that but he keeps working with AD throughout the summer. That will do worlds of good for the both of them.

Yeah, there's really nothing negative to come from this. Great for our coach, our superstar, and our organization.

It can only help. Hopefully he'll learn some stuff from the other coaches.
Good coaches learn constantly, so he better learn no matter anyone's thoughts on him.
I hope this leads to the Pelicans hiring another assitant. Turning over one besides that wouldn't be so bad, either.

Why would that happen? Because Monty is too busy?

Well, they are down a man and have been for a while.
More work with the same amount of Monty should add to the hiring pressure.

No coach was hired since Borrego left, leaving the team with 4 assistants instead of 5. The Pelicans, therefore, may in the market for a coach. This lack of manpower compared to previous years may explain some of the regression of the team in some key areas, but refraining from making a hire for hiring’s sake is positive.
This team needs some coaching changes, but not at the top level, which is what those who analyze shallowly immediately recommend. Rather, at least 1 assistant needs to be added. Things are either stagnant or regressing, making this acquisition potentially as influential as any other for the New Orleans Pelicans this offseason.

Really helps us in free agency I would think. Big names being around monty during kff season has to be a good thing.
Also helps Monty gets win from a bench and get some swag going

Lots of coaching staff changes this offseason league wide. There's no excuse not to fill that vacancy soon.

Also, I can't believe the OP missed the opportunity to headline the thread "CP3 to play for Coach Monty Williams Again"
Good for Monty. He's a great coach.

The next major competition for USA Basketball will take place next summer, when the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup takes place in Spain. The 2016 Summer Olympics, held in Rio de Janeiro, conclude the four-offseason timeframe. In between, the USA team will hold a minicamp in Las Vegas next month from July 22-25. It also will potentially participate in 2015 Olympic qualifying (if necessary, based on outcome of ’14 World Cup).
That four-day minicamp will now have an extremely large Pelicans presence – in addition to Williams being on hand as an assistant coach, forwards Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson have also been invited. Davis was the lone college player on the 2012 USA squad that captured a gold medal in London, England. Meanwhile, as one of the NBA’s premier three-point shooters, Anderson has potential to make an impact for the national team as a long-range specialist who is also an underrated rebounder.
Williams previously has experience representing USA Basketball as a player, having been a member of 22-and-under team that won a gold medal in 1993.
“I want to thank (USA Basketball chairman Jerry) Colangelo for his confidence in me and I am truly honored and looking forward to working on Coach K’s staff,” said Williams in a press release Monday afternoon. “For me to be involved as an assistant coach for USA Basketball where I can represent my country is a privilege and the ultimate honor. … With this honor, I feel the same sense of pride again for my country, but I also want to make the Bensons, Pelican organization, New Orleans community and my family proud.”

Jerry Colangelo says Monty Williams was a perfect candidate to become Team USA assistant based on his background and his reputation.

Colangelo says this move could help "enhance" the relationship between Monty and Anthony Davis.
Also interesting that Colangelo mentioned Monty's age. Could be grooming him.

I think it's probably more for relating to the players and having a mix of guys on the staff. Monty should have no problem being the low man on the totem pole because Thibs and Coach K have been around forever. Bring in a more experienced coach and there might be friction over the #2 spot.
