GMAT score needed at lsu

Hello All,
I have been studying for the gmat for a while. I am using the Kaplan book and online tests. I have taken 3 online practice tests. 1 prior and two this past week. I scored a 590 originally and two 640s. How indicative is this of how my actual performance on the gmat will be? I am taking it saturday an am still studying so I hope to do a little better, like maybe a 670 or so.

I'd say there's a deviation of 50 points. My practice tests were all significantly higher than my actual score (30-70 points higher), but I'm a bad test taker when the money is on the line, so to speak.
The best way to ensure accuracy is to take lots of practice tests under the same conditions as test day. Take your tests in quiet rooms with only the two permissible breaks, and try to take your practice tests at the same time as the actual test.
Please do not over study. This was one of my problems and a common problem among test takers. Try to relax once Friday hits.

The test itself is really not that hard. A lot of the material in the math section is high school math. Overstudying and over-stressing is definitely not something you want to do and is unnecessary. It sounds like you're getting a fine score on the practice tests and don't have too much to worry about.

no. The practice tests are easier than the real thing. You'll probably score a 580-610 if I had to guess. You only need a 600 really.

The official GMAC practice tests are very similar. I used Knewton and scored lower on theirs than the real thing. Good luck on the test!

Practice scores are higher due to lack of stress/anxiety and the tests are normally easier than the real deal.

Anyone know what the average score at LSU is? Businessweek says about a 515? Seems kind of low. And how does that compare with finance or accounting programs?

I think the GMAT/GRE is used at most schools as just a benchmark score. They just want you to be above a certain #.

Ole miss accounting bench mark is 450 and the MBA is 550. Which is kind of counter intuitive considering our b school sucks but our accounting school is top 10.

Anyone know how the verbal stuff correlates with high school standardized tests? Those sections always helped me in HS a lot and I'm hoping the international demographics would further aid that.
Will be taking my first practice test cold this weekend. Not MBA though...MsFin possibly.

In some ways, yes. The reading comprehension is tougher to follow than ACT reading sections, but it's the same concept.
Sentence correction is similar. It's a "which one is most correct" kind of section, so you have to be well versed in the grammar rules.
There's critical reasoning as well, but it's a relatively intuitive section.
ETA: They made some change to the test last year, so the verbal section may be different.

That is precisely how I have found the verbal section to be.
Reading comprehension 1-2 fairly technical readings and 1-2 email correspondance readings.
Sentance correction, which i personally dislike.
Critical reasoning, which i enjoy doing because you can figure the answer out before reading the question.
What school are you looking at?

I took it a couple of years back when I was thinking of taking the MBA route. I got a 600 on the dot, which is good enough to get into LSU, but I took a job right after taking the test, so I'm not doing anything with the score now.
I did really well on the verbal and essay portions, but I didn't brush up on the math nearly enough and muffed the data sufficiency portion. Honestly, I'm just awful at math. My practice test scores were all at least 30 points higher than the actual test, but again, I did a poor job on test day (didn't get enough sleep, studied too much the day before, etc.) Being comfortable and maintaining your pacing on test day is really, really important.

I scored pretty high on the actual test compared to my practice test. Then again I'm the Tim Tebow of the GMAT.

If you need to study for the GMAT, you don't need to be doing whatever you're thinking of doing with your life.

690 or something right? That's a really high score, probably 90ish percentile. I remember you were trying to get into the UT program in Houston. Did you go the FT or PT route?
If the OP just wants to get into LSU fresh out of college, a 600 will suffice. If you have work experience, you can probably score a 500+ and get in.

I graduated last spring and am hoping to be back in the fall for a ms in finance.

LSU for MsFin most likely. GPA will be just over 3.5 when I graduate undergrad and am trying to take more time to pick up internships and learn useful stuff. I hope to score high enough for the M7 schools for MBA 5 yrs down the road which I am confident I can do.

If your undergrad is from LSU then I would recommend going to another school for grad school. The LSU alumni network is pretty terrible. I recommend going to a school that gets recruited for top tier consulting or IB positions. Even if you don't do one of those, there will be plenty of rotational programs available. Grad school is all about building a network. Unfortunately, LSU doesn't have many people in top tier positions to help you get interviews.
