Can one do this without a CC permit?

I've never let state lines dictate where my vehicle goes.

I hope so...been doing it for a while

i do it all the time. im pretty there is a federal law that protects you to carry it across any state line if it is unloaded and packed away. as for it being loaded and in the console (like mine) i am sure La/Tx have lenient laws on that.

I think you're good in Texas. Bama is the one that you gotta watch out for.
Id let someone else confirm that though![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I know for a fact TX/LA is fine and they have reciprocity of CCL

It has to be concealed in your vehicle in Texas. Can't be out in the open. Keep it in your console and you will be fine.

Do it all the time. I dont cc because its my way of reminding myself to stay out of places where I might need one.

What's so bad about Bama?
What about Florida?

If driving through bama you have to lock the gun up and the ammo has to be in a different part of the vehicle.
Or something along those lines. Basically can't have a loaded handgun and it definitely can't be easily accessed by the driver

lol you fly with a pistol to any state in the usa. so you can drive through every state with a pistol. hunters have been doing it for how long now.
like they said have the pistol in 1 box and the ammo in another box just for precautions

I wish it were that simple and made that much sense. OTOH, there are a number of states that are MUCH more restrictive about transporting guns that are LA and TX. If one doesn't already know the laws of a state, the BEST idea is to look up those state specific laws yourself before transporting a gun through that state. Laws vary depending on whether one's transporting a long gun or handgun. There's a lot of variance on how to legally transport a gun in different states. In some states (e.g. CT), one could still get in trouble for having ammo and gun in separate containers, yet accessible to the driver/passenger.
"Carrying Handguns in Motor Vehicles. By law, when handguns are being transported in a motor vehicle, they must be unloaded and kept in a place (1) not readily or directly accessible from the passenger compartment or (2) locked container other than the glove compartment or console. A violation carries a penalty of one to five years imprisonment, a fine of up to $1,000, or both, with a mandatory minimum one-year sentence in the absence of mitigating circumstances. Any handgun found in the violator's possession must be forfeited (CGS §§ 29-35 and 29-37)."
This is a very good website to reference when looking up info on gun related issues.
