About to pull the trigger on Guild Wars 2

I've finally gotten to the point where I've run out of excuses to not buy GW2. However, there's nothing worse than trying to play an MMORPG alone. Just trying to throw out some feelers to see how many people on this board actively play it and wouldn't mind skyping/venting/teamspeaking etc. etc. and showing me the ropes. You can only play an MMO by yourself for so long before it gets boring and tedious.

I played for a while with some guys from TD but lost interest, not sure if they're still around. We had a thread going, might wanna try searching for it

IMO, GW2 didn't bring anything new to the table.
Dungeons were frustrating, and skills were bland.
I did enjoy the game for a solid amount of time though.
I wouldn't recommend paying full price for it.

It may not appear so at first, but when you try 2 different weapon combos, and realize that some of the skills are the same with slight visual differences and some varied numbers, you'll see what I mean.
Again, not saying the game is bad, but the skill system they chose wears you out after you play for several hours.

I play every now and then. Would love to play with someone else.
ETA: I'm on Sorrow's furnace. Although, you can guest into any server.

I'm on Sorrow's Furnace too. Just hit 80 on my first char. Trying to grind for a legendary.

Just started playing it again actually. I kind of stopped around 50 as I got frustrated with a story mission and never seemed to come back to it. Booted it up the other day and I'm at 59 right now. I'm on Dragonbrand.

Looks like the guild the board is running is on Dragonbrand, too. But I haven't gotten any response from them so idk. I'm downloading it as we speak.

I'm logging on right now for an hour or two. Then I'll be on tonight most likely, if you aren't installed before I have to go. We can group and I'll help you run through the lower level areas.

Will do when I figure out how. Really loving the game so far. Was not expecting voice acting for your own character. This really looks like something I'll sink my teeth into.

Some of the story stuff is very impressive and there is always something to do in the game.
Just some tips to help early on:
buy gathering tools as soon as possible. You can get a lot if experience just from gathering stuff.
make sure to use all the weapon types you can early on. That way, if you find a great weapon you can just pick it up and have all the skills ready.
get your crafting professions and level them up when you have a large amount of mats.
fill out all your bag slots. Also, in the top right hand corner of your inventory, you can send your collectibles to the bank automatically. This is just a way to maximize bag space so you don't have to stop at every merchant you come across.
repairing is pretty cheap early on and you should take full advantage of that.
don't use waypoints. They're a money drain. Plus, you can come across some events on your way. If you need to get to your main city, go to lions arch in WvW and take the asura gate
dailies are great goals for when you just have a few hours to play. And there are great rewards for completing them.
salvaging is a great way to get mats, but don't waste your better salvage kits for white items. Use them exclusively for the colored items.
explore and do everything you can. Experience is very easy to get

Great tips. I definitely agree with most, if not all. Due to my weird work schedule and other responsibilities I foun that going for the dailies while exploring the world on my own worked out best for me. Feels like I actually accomplish something even though I can only put a couple of hours at most every other day or so.

I'm not half as far. I've tried a few different classes with friends. A bunch of random levels and groups. Favorite has been Nord Warrior.

Yeah I got a few classes to about lvl 10 before I decided to focus on my chart warrior. Hit 80 last week and in my quest to forge a legendary weapon, I'm first trying to get 100% map completion. Starting to do some WvWvW when I have a little bit of time too.

So what server is everyone that still plays on? I joined the one that had the guild, but it looks like everyone from there has stopped playing or at least isn't very active on this board anymore. I would like to know if I need to go ahead and switch servers before I put too much time onto this character.
Posted on 5/20/13 at 8:27 pm to Drewbie
Pretty sure your character can transfer with no loss of items or levels. In fact, you can guest on any server.
Posted on 5/20/13 at 9:11 pm to oauron
I believe you have to pay for transfers. But yeah you can guest on other servers. Just no WvWvW or PvP if i'm not mistaken.
