Do any other fanbases dislike their broadcaster like LSU's dislikes Hawthorne? It's not the mistakes that bother me. It's the utter failure to actually do the play by play. "Two receivers to the far side. One to the near side. Theres the snap (pause) I don't know what he was thinking..." WHAT THE frick HAPPENED BESIDES SOMETHING BAD FOR LSU??!!!

I like JH. He makes more mistakes as he gets up in age but I've been listening to him for over 20yrs so it doesn't bother me. He's been the voice of the tigers so long I think he'll be missed by a lot of older fans.

A lot of people on the rant would hate the football coach even if he went 12-0 and won the seccg and played in the NCG.....oh wait. Dad used to say they wouldn't be happy if you hung em with a new rope.

I am a happy, well-adjusted person with a job and a family that I love, and I love LSU.

I say that so that no one can characterize me as a chronic hater who has no life and nothing better to do, because....

Jim Hawthorne is TERRIBLE as a play by play announcer. I know how hard the job is. I couldn't do it any better than he could. But LSU fans think he's great because he's the only guy they've heard for three decades. Open up the job to someone beyond Hawthorne and the two guys who replace him for minor or conflicting games, and you will never miss him. It is a very lacking area of LSUs athletics Gameday experience.

I imagine telling one of my employees that although they constantly bitch and make mistakes, I'm going to keep them in their jobs because they just love it soooo much.

Don't pay these silly herd-mentality welfare queens that pollute this website any mind.

The fact is that Hawthorne sucks dick at announcing and has done for some time, and it's exacerbated by the fact that he WAS once very good. It's just jarring to listen to him now.

True story.

Couple Saturdays ago LSU played fla.
I had to meet my wife in Nola that afternoon so i intentionally left my house when game started at 12.
Little over a 3 hr drive so I listened to damn near entire broadcast.
I tried To put myself in the shoes of a JH hater and be objective and understand why people say he sucks,.... I couldn't do it. It's just not there.

Ill admit I usually don't listen to every play call during every lsu game, but I did that Saturday.
Crying about how he pronounces names, sayings he makes or how he describes a play is ridiculous.

JH is a class act and LSU is lucky to have him.
He'll be missed when he decides to retire.

dislike him? no

I don't think he's very good at his job though.

His voice is annoying at times, he mispronounces words and names constantly, misses game action, gets wayyyy too negative during broadcasts

ellicks edwards is 0 for 2 on the weekEND...takes a strike on the outside kernerrrrr and it's 0-1

I don't care about the endearing way he butchers names, places and basic description of what's happening.

You know what I want?

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE frickING SCORE IS, JIM!!!

I can listen to an LSU baseball game for thirty minutes and not know what the score is. It's not television, where a little graphic can tell you the score, Jim. You're all I fricking have, man!

For the most part Tiger fans love JH. People like to complain about him from time to time, but what fan base doesnt complain about their broadcaster.

Time for LSU to start looking for a replacement. He used to be pretty good but now, especially in football where things happen more quickly, he makes the mistake of watching like a fan instead of describing what is going on, which is his job.

He gets overly negative at times but his biggest sin is failing to give things like down and distance, correct names of players, and having too much dead air time. Doug Moreau is a big help during football games. Baseball moves a little slower and I think he is able to keep up with things there a little better. Try someone new for football at least. Can't say I would "hate" but he does leave me screaming at the radio "What the hell happened?" during his long pauses.

There's no universal 'dislike.' It's been a love-hat with Jim from the outset. Yes, he can screw up a name or even put the name on the wrong player but he loves LSU and gets excited when we do something right, and I like that; and I like Hawthorne.
