Oh, I don't think it's a huge deal or anything, but it's probably a legitimate reason for at least a little optimism when it comes to perception.
Just think how far down the totem pole the fricking 2001-2011 franchise was with its "great" ownership, front office and disarray.

Is everyone getting on the same "cycle" or something? Damn. This is fantastic news and CAN ONLY HELP ATTRACT FREE AGENTS. You can argue how much it helps, but to downgrade it for the sake of downgrading it makes you a hater.

I'm sure that rule has never been broken in the slightest.
Even so, Monty shouldn't be broadcasting that and get himself in trouble. I get why he said it but he could have waited a month.

I don't see how players coming up to you and telling you they want to play for you would be considered tampering. As long as it's a one way conversation initiated by the player it should be fine.
As for how big of a deal it is, I think if true it's at least as big as the Saints ability to attract the best UDFAs. That helps them fill depth positions cheaply so they can focus cap space and draft picks on other positions. Even if you're only getting a $500k discount on each guy that can add up and let you overpay for the harder to attract starters.

The removal of the negative is the biggest thing about the practice facility. To say it makes N, ew Orleans more attractive than the average NBA is unknown and, to me, illogical.
It helps compared to the team's previous position, no doubt.
These small helps you mentioned, and others, are how the effects mount up from this sort of stuff, better sponsorship, renovations, etc. Many little things that, in isolation, are nearly ineffective.

Trust me, I'm thrilled about the Facility. I do think it will be huge for us. It shows that we are FINALLY a legit team with a legit owner...not a half-arse team operating out of a place that has a lizard show on weekends.
But I'm poo-pooing this whole "Monty has FA's walking up to him all season, etc etc". There are a lot of players classified as a FA, and most of them blow.

Exactly, and it's not like they are negotiating contracts. It's just players sending out feelers like "keep me in mind when you start wading into FA."

And? If the crop is shitty, we can't just not build a roster. There aren't upper crust players out there, but those are a small fraction of the league. You have to be able to effectively compete for role players without overpaying. Having more players interested diversifies what choices can be made.
Again, it CAN ONLY HELP. Why try to create a negative that doesn't exist? Any little positive is a step in the right direction.

I think you're over-analyzing what I said a bit. I just think its a Pelicans talking point I keep hearing and I think its been overstated. That's it.
The Practice Facility is a big deal though. Really a dream come true for us. I honestly can't believe their was a faction that was so deadset against Benson owning the team. Looks to be pretty awesome for us.

I don't know if he's being intentionally misleading to try and create buzz about the team, but I do believe most people think Monty's implying a higher level of Free Agent than the Willie Greens of the world but the reality is probably a lot closer to Willie Green. Carl Landry type at best. Again, nothing to dismiss, but this just seems reminiscent of Hugh Webber's #comingtogether tweet.

I think Monty selling himself like this multiple times in the press is a bit out of character and he's desperate for veterans on this team and is overstating the facts on purpose in hopes of attracting more free agents.
That's how you over analyze.

Not really. Its something that's been repeated ad nauseum.
I think its as Tiger said, maybe some of the Willie Green's of the world are talking to him, but people have this image of Dwight and CP coming up to him and begging to be a Pel.
That's all I'm saying, really.

I don't. I never did. If you did, that's on you...over-analyzing.

Did I say you? Did I say me?
I definitely never did, and I sure as hell never thought that you did.
I'm just saying I see a lot of people mention that quote and bring up big names. The quote has just taken on a life of its own.

So we can agree that they are over-analyzing...
