I think he's dead but I certainly don't think the scene speaks for itself.
In fact, the cynic in me thinks it was left purposely vague not as some artistic statement but in case some studio tossed 30 million each at Chase and Gandolfini to make a movie.

He's dead and i think the last episode was brilliant, but it was also vague, so maybe they could cop out and do something in the future.

I know exactly what the scene led you to believe but to say it is a proven fact is just ludicrous.

I think there is a strong case he was a goner.
Phil was executed right in front of his wife. You have to think if there was retaliation on Soprano that his family could all be witnesses to his death.

true, but another watcher suggested that he killed the whole family at the table. i said no way they'd kill the entire family. they'd shoot him in front of his family.
am i crazy or is he?

I never really liked the "never heard it coming" explanation for the ending. Using that, you could just as easily say that a nuke went off and the instant blast killed everyone in the show, because damn it, they never heard it coming.
I do think Tony was killed, however, in the same manner that everyone else thinks. I just wish Chase would've used a shadow, or a quick glimpse of the tip of the barrel to show that the dude shot Tony from behind.

Meadow had a crystal clear view of it. The scene is very frank. It still cracks me up people think he survived.
Alot of people, myself included, remembering seeing meadow walk through the door. She didnt or she wasn't seen walking through. If you watch it a second time you'll figure out why. Absolutely brilliant scene and very deliberate

Your idea makes more sense.
The only thing that leads me to consider the possibility of AJ and Carmela being killed is that they put so much emphasis on Meadow's parking job as she shows up late. There is some reason we're supposed to think about her not being inside with the family yet, as if she and beautiful boobies were the only ones spared.

Except none of that proves he was shot. Its a possibility, but nothing more than that.

Had she not had such a difficult time parking he would be sitting next to tony and tony lives
The timing and framing also show you that she'll see the whole thing

I crack up at people that think it is 100% that he died. At that time there were still talks of a movie. They made the ending like this for everything to point to him being dead as closure if they dont get a movie deal made.

It's more than just that. I don't have time to write a paper on how the scene was shot.

Yeah, if we're acting under the assumption that the series finale was the end of the Sopranos, period, then Tony is certainly dead.
The New York outfit outnumbered New Jersey by something like 5:1 (IIRC, they mentioned that) so I can't imagine that they would be cool with icing Phil but Tony escaping untouched since everybody probably blamed them both for the escalation.
That, combined with Tony essentially being isolated with most of his top staff being dead, dying or in federal custody made his position really vulnerable.
