How important is J-Smooth to the Pels going forward?

What's your take? There is much HT silence on him outside of camps and charities. Haven't seen him in any trade talk. I think Jason can be a starter for many teams in the league. A team like OKC would be a bit better right now if they had Smith. Only if . He gives us rotation options with his abilities to run the floor, defend, shoot the rock, and bang down low. The luxury is that he would step in at pf or c. that is nice. Being on the floor with Ryno and another center makes a big lineup that can still offensively stud.
While I just gave J-Smooth an internet rim job, I hope we dont trade him . I hope like hell we keep him for another couple of years.

i'm not sold on him being a starter just yet. I love him coming off the bench for us he gives us a much needed spark, his energy is off the charts and he seems to be a great leader for our young guys
I would hate to lose him but I don't think he is non tradeable. I would be open to offers but really would like him to stay coming off the bench here
he is also a flat out competitor gives 110% whether healthy, injured or just got done with a honeybee 4-some

He's about as important as paragraphs are to you.

He's a terrific player off the bench. He's where he needs to be.

He can barely stay healthy. His contract is up after next season. Maybe the Pelicans need to replace him with a more reliable option.

Good luck finding an equivalent big at an equivalent price.

His Market price will naturally rise. There's always a shortage of quality bigs. He was an unknown when we signed him to that contract. That's definitely isn't the case any longer. I'll be surprised if they'd be able to re-sign him for a similar contract.

He's irreplaceable. Period. Every team needs one of those high octane players.

i look at boston last year. ryan freakin hollins was their center! kg had no help at all. smith changes a lot. okc, the clippers could've used him in these playoffs. yeah I'm going with irreplaceable too!

I don't think he's irreplaceable, he's just more valuable to the Pelicans than they'd get back for him in a trade. The question about Smith is can he be a starter on a bad team. If so he may get paid and move on, but if his price stays around the $5 million mark he'll still be a good value off the bench. One thing going in the Pelicans favor is he owes the upgrade in his career to the opportunity and coaching he got here, and I don't think any other fan base will have as big of a man crush on him. Leveling Blake Griffin happened at just the right time to make him a local hero. Goodell was bending us over and fans found a release in that hit.
