so tell me, at what point does would one not fish around a dock? should you just fish around it, then move on? is it rude to park up next to it for an hour?
I wouldn't fish a dock that an owner doesn't want fished. If there's other docks that the owner's have no issues with it then good for the fisherman. Maybe owner is being a dick, maybe he feels you're being a dick for fishing his dock. Etiquette wise, i think its best to just fish elsewhere.

his private pier on a lake that he doesnt own. on an oxbow. there are millions of piers on public bodies of water in louisiana, and everyone that fishes in louisiana fishes them. you do. i do. this old bastard does too. everyone on this board that fishes in louisiana fishes piers. so for this old piece of shite wants to keep it to himself is a load of bullshite. it's public water and he knows the real reason anyone might not fish there is just because he's being a dick. he's like a kid who whines and cries to get what he wants. exactly the same thing.
i can not stand this shite. i have had people try to run me off of public land in the basin because they think i don't know where the lines are, and it pisses me off because they are trying to take something that belongs to everyone and keep it for themselves.
okay but salmon wouldn't be fishing that spot in the water if it wasn't for this man's private pier structure that he built. Without that, it wouldn't be a "spot" to fish.

Well there's only one thing to do here.
Post the gps coordinates then go watch the fun.

There are dicks on both sides of the argument. There are alot of fisherman who can't cast worth a shite or run a trolling motor and break people's lights and bang into the docks. Those fine folks don't offer to pay for the bulbs or fixture they broke.
If you own a dock and are not fishing or swimming or actively using it, it should be cool for people to fish it.

The thing is, he IS being a dick while he just THINKS I'm being a dick. He can get over it. I have no problem with confrontation.
Jury verdict: no violation of fishing etiquette.

Put out a semi circle of yo yos 20ft. out from his dock. See how he handles that.

One thing to add though...post the video on youtube once you've got 3 or 4 boats fishing the old curmudgeon's dock and he comes out to gripe.

still doesnt change the fact that everyone in the state of louisiana fishes piers and it's bullshite for someone to think that he gets to pretend like his shite is more important than anyone elses. he doesn't have any claim to that tree once it's in the water and if he's old he should know better than to think that. he's a whiny piece of shite.

We have a camp on False River and dudes troll by fishing all the time (at least they used to). No tears shed on our end.

So people who drop those huge crab boxes in the canals of their boat shed to keep crabs alive, i can snorkel under their and steal their crabs? Its in the public water, they don't own the wildlife and anything you lowered in the water is no longer your possession.

doesn't matter, so if he built a wooden reef structure and lowered it, you can't fish it then?

Stealing crab pots =/= fishing a pier.

Is this truly a "public" oxbow?
i.e. could anyone navigate into this oxbow off of the river in a normal boat?
Is this is one of those cases where you have to either:
A. Trespass onto a strip of dry private property to launch your yack into the oxbow.
B. Have permission to traverse over a piece of private property to launch your yak into the oxbow..
In these cases i could see where the pier owner could get his russles jimmied up. He has private property built onto a semi private oxbow. He feels as though it isnt as public as fishing docks on bisteneau.
Either way he doesnt have a leg to stand on, but I know that it changes my opinion (slightly) of the guy if this is the case.

I can't believe you're still reaching for a valid argument.
