Some of you may remember this from E3.

Has anyone been in the beta? Is it just a never ending war like Planetside 2? If so I am out. I can't stand a FPS with no instant gratification or clear objective.
Looks good though especially for a console F2P. Looks like a cross of Planetside 2 and Blacklight Retribution.

I've been in the beta since last year, played it a bit.
Not very good, but not my style either.

I'm pretty sure it's instanced.

I played the beta for a few weeks. I'm not big into FPS, but I really liked the game. Everything is instanced and you get skill points at the end of each match. There are a ton of different skills to level also. The skill point gain and leveling is my favorite aspect of the game. There is/was a weekly skill point cap. This keeps things balanced I guess, but it was annoying getting far less sp after every match.
The actual game play was solid. A bit like Black Ops. I didn't care for the vehicles in the game, especially the tanks. There didn't seem to be many maps either.

I am not super familar with the game, but the big twist is that Dust players are contracted mercenaries for the space game Eve Online, which has such significant free market forces that the players almost self build storylines and "quests" in their persuit of money/control of space.
So it isn't an ongoing pointless war.
My understanding is that you'll pop from place to place fighting for control of sections of planets, which in turn plays a new role in the sovereignty dynamic in control of star systems in Eve Online.
One place where the tying in is evident is that if you request an orbital bombardment support, it doesn't just happen like in most FPSs.
The request goes to whoever contracted you, who in turn needs to maintain enough of a presence in the space above the planet so they can have a player controlled ship offer that bombardment support.
Which means that in many places, while you are fighting on the ground there can be as many as 2000 players in starships in the space above it fighting to both give their ground troops support and to prevent the other side from supporting theirs.
In my experience of Eve, the main back and forth for FPS-side will probably occur for the same reasons why space battles went back and forth: because geographically speaking it is in a vital strategic pipeline, or because the star system is very rich in resources.
So while it won't be empty, constant, and pointless fighting, there will be constant infighting for control of a couple of theaters as well as hotspot skirmishes across the galaxy.
Will be interesting to see how this FPS element will play out in the next "World War" to break out.

Player run battleship in orbit in Eve firing at a target requested by ground troops.

Too bad there probably aren't enough potential eve players here to make building a TD themed corp worthwhile
