The scenario is evil aliens challenge us to a basketball game for the fate of humanity. Kind of like Spacejam. Except we have a time machine and can select any player from history in their prime.
5 starters, 7 back-ups
Starting Lineup
PG Magic Johnson - dynamic all around, elite scorer, GOAT distributor
SG Michael Jordan - GOAT
SF LeBron James - SGOAT
PF Tim Duncan - mr fundamental
C Hakeem Olajuwon - the man of a thousand post moves
Reserves
Shaquille O'Neal - We need some enormous unstoppable freaks of nature on the bench. We don't know what the aliens are gonna throw at us
Wilt Chamberlain - See above
Scottie Pippen - greatest defending forward of all time, incredible all-around player, dynamic scorer
Larry Bird - elite all-around player, can heat up faster than anyone
John Stockton - to distribute and run the pick and roll
Bill Russell - elite blocker and post player, winner
Kobe Bryant - can heat up quickly and take over a game

Big O is great, but people get too hung up on the averaging a triple-double thing. He was very very good at everything, but great at nothing. He's slightly overrated.
Players like MJ, LBJ, Larry, and Magic are great in multiple aspects.

That's like your opinion man
In the dynamics of this super team the pg position needs to be able to distribute and you've already listed the top two so I added some depth in case the Monstars send in the enforcers

your team sucks
quote:And? This isn't a team of ballhogs. Magic and LBJ have no problem sharing the load in order to win. Really, as long as Kobe and Michael aren't on the floor at the same time, it will never be an issue.

I feel like we need Pippen. Maybe we don't need both Wilt and Shaq. One of them can go (Wilt)

Bill Belichick and Popovich are coaches, right?

Jordan and Kobe don't play with PGs and PGs don't play with guys like Jordan and Kobe.
Why would you want Jordan or any guy who takes a lot of shots on a team if you don't need one? If you have nothing but great players then why do you need a guy who's specialty is iso scoring? Not to mention you only have 1 legit outside shooter. Your team would be awesome for a pick up game or something. My team would kill yours in a real game

quote:Because things don't always flow together seamlessly. Plenty of teams have moved the ball well and everyone understood their roles, but rarely do these teams win it all without an elite creator. You need an iso player in certain situations. Your system of essentially role players WILL run into issues and break down. You need more than one elite scorer off the dribble.
Why would you want Jordan or any guy who takes a lot of shots on a team if you don't need one? If you have nothing but great players then why do you need a guy going 1 on 1 taking a bunch of shots?

I would start Bill Russell.
With that much scoring, there is zero need for anything but a team leader/defensive master at the C.

Popovich shits on this.
Pop and Red, call it a day.
Phil's system would take too long.
