Read his scouting report and after taking off the saints blinders sounds like Shanle 2.0 sorry folks I'm not as excited about him as you guys are

so he's an NFL starter? i'd take that from an undrafted player any day

I agree but I figured we'd be past the days of a "capable starter" and maybe want a superstar on our D

he's an undrafted free agent. i don't think anyone would expect him to be any more than a guy who plays a few snaps, if he even makes the team. of course everyone would love a superstar.

Do you except all 53 to be superstars?

Hey dumbass he's an undrafted free agent not our first round pick

Are you freaking kidding me? Did you watch Shanle at all during Saints games?
Dude couldn't shed a block for shite, get to the QB for shite, took poor angles like shite, and pretty much played like he had shite in his pants.

What the frick are you talking about? I said Chase Thomas is an undrafted free agent. The OP is acting like he's our first round pick.

Shanle has had a decent NFL career. If can get someone to take his spot with similar skill at 1/5 the salary I'd say that's a win

I'm not saying the dudes our savior. I get it he's a udfa but some people on this board think he's the second coming. Just pointing out he's really not.

Double post. Sorry

Shanle was a solid player for a while. He just got older and slowed down (he was already not that fast). Thomas will have quite a few productive years. He's not a superstar but he will be a solid starter in the future

The draft has really brought out the good ones this year.

sounds like Shanle 2.0
More like Shanle 5.0, new and improved.
Shanle only had 17 tackles for loss during his whole time at Nebraska. Thomas averaged 12.5/year. In total he had 51 TFL versus Shanle's 17, a 100% difference.
Shanle had 6 sacks in 3 years. Thomas had 27 in 4 years. Another difference of a 127%.
Thomas had a MUCH better college career. Not saying he will mimic that in the pros. Still if he's only twice as good as Shanle at his prime, we could have a pretty damn good value for an UDFA

Thanks for bringing some perspective. Clearly Thomas was a much more productive player. Clearly, however, there is a reason he fell so far and wasn't drafted.
The reason why I'm excited though is that Chase Thomas should provide quality depth. I like our top 3 OLB, but we have no depth at OLB. I fully expect Chase Thomas can be solid depth at the position. That is more than you can usually expect out of an UDFA

Happens every year. Might motivate him even more, especially since his hometown team passed on him.

He waited in vain at his home in Atlanta on Saturday for his number to be called. "It happens," he said shortly after the draft ended. Asked how he felt, he said, "Pissed off." He said he couldn't speculate on why he wasn't picked. His slow 40-yard time of 4.87 seconds at the Indianapolis combine probably turned some teams off, but, according to NFL Draft Scout, an online service that rates prospects, Thomas is an "overachiever with strength and smarts" who was expected to go in the third or fourth round.
I don't care about the 40 yard dash time. It's an overrated measure. Some pretty good players have ran slower times.

quote:There is a difference between being optimistic and thinking he's the savior. I'm sure everyone is excited to get a guy who is solid as an udfa but no one is expecting him to be a probowler. And please give me your professional scouting breakdown of the guy that you have created by doing the extensive research of reading up on the guy and concluding "oh hey guys he sounds like shanle" so everyone stop being optimistic. As if starting a thread about an udfa possibly not being a great player would come as some shock to all of us. Please share more of your genius discoveries
