Regardless of what happened in this case...I'm a respectful guy and am respectful to most people when I deal with them. what that means is I treat police officers with the same respect I treat anyone else...no differently. that also means that they can lose that respect just as easily as some regular a-hole. The fact that they have a badge does not in ANY WAY allow them greater leeway in terms of the respect they deserve.
You want to be respected...you earn it. You don't get it automatically by your clothing or job title.
NOTE: I, like everyone else ion this thread, know almost nothing about what actually happened, so there's no point in speculating on it as far as I'm concerned.
right but how you show that respect, or lack their of, to a police officer is a whole different ball game than the guy at the convenience store thats rude at the check out line. i dont have to shower him with praise just for wearing a uniform but i sure as hell am going to make sure i watch my mouth a little closer just because the stakes are a lot higher (not that im going around disrespecting people because they showed me some perceived lack of respect in the first place... bigger battles to fight out there really).

bullshite moron. A person on the street tells you to move, you can just ignore him.
A cop tells you to move, YOU MOVE! Immediately!
Cops deserve respect at all times. Yes there are times when a cop is abbusive, but 99.9% of the time they are simply doing their job and don't have to explain it to you why you should listen. There are HUNDREDS of reasons why that cop may have needed him to move.

I do not. They are people, just like you. So long as we both play nice, all is fine. I had a ton of retail experience in college, so I sort of go out of my way to try and not make ANYONE's job more difficult than it has to be. Police fall into that category. However, I am not going to be spoken to in a manner that assumes I'm guilty of something if I am not or that because I don't have a badge I am not worthy of being respected.
The idea that anyone things they need to hold their tongue around an officer out of some sort of fear kind of makes me cringe a bit.
