Alfred Blue on gay football players: "We look at you as a sissy"

Other thread is anchored for no reason.

Regardless if you agree with him or not, he should have worded this differently. LSU does not want this attention

Blue is a dumbass for allowing the reporter to bait him. I knew the minute I read his comments that it would get national attention. He should have kept his mouth shut like the rest of the bigots, racists, and morons have to do in this day and age.

We don't need this kind of pub.

I really hate this shite. It's all over the front page in the news all the time.

"Hey look, I'm gay"

Nobody gives a frick about your sexual orientation. Do I run around screaming I'm hetero? No. It's borderline attention whoring with all these athletes coming out saying they're gay. Don't come with the bullying crap either, is anyone holding a gun to their head? Being gay isn't going to change who you are so why come out with it if you're not comfortable?

Do I support gay people? You wouldn't see me carrying a sign for them down the road but I believe they should have equal rights as everyone else. I don't give a shite what someone does with their life. It's not for me to say how you should live. This is America, right?

Blue could've worded what he said better for sure. It came off as bigotry. However, I'm not going to give him shite over it. Just as I can respect a gay man living his life and having his own opinions, I'll do the same for Blue. Not everyone has to support gay people. That's the great thing about America.

Wow, I said shite a lot in this post...

Why in the lord's name would Blue make such a discriminatory, hostile statement to a newspaper reporter, even one at the lowly Reveille?

Unfortunately, his rash comments will overshadow some of the more moderate, enlightened views of his teammates.

Miles' comments are, as always, vaguely inscrutable.

Blue is a football player, not a politician. Don't care what he thinks about the issue one way or the other.

Didn't care about John Rocker's political opinions either.

This is a free country. Ppl can have differing opinions about all sorts of things. Unless the speaker is a policy or decision maker, who really cares?

Why should he have worded it better? WHY? He is a football player not a fricking gubernatorial candidate.

Get. A. fricking. Life.

Blue was an idiot for making those remarks-regardless of his, my, yours, or anyone else's beliefs-when you are a public figure, you have to be able to control your thoughts/feelings because there will always be someone looking to make more of it than it is. It's the same thing as being asked about another coach, team, player during the season, you don't want to be spewing "bulletin board" material, in this case sentiments that reflect badly upon a team. Media relations should have offered some "advice" on how these guys should respond to social issue questions. I'm not faulting Blue for what he believes, I'm just saying this whole issue is thrown out there to attempt to stir up controversy & try to find that one kid who will probably say more than he should've & then the horse is out the barn & here comes all the other media outlets that will focus on this one statement. Public/media relations needs to do a better job of teaching these kids how to approach interviews.

LSU players and coaches should have politely told the Reveille no comment when questioned about this article.

No one knows what context these questions were asked.
