You have to think of it as a rotation.

A starting lineup of of Hicks-Star-Cam with a back up of Smith, Bunkley, and Johnson would be a pretty great rotation.

Except when Smith has to come in. :(

But you also have Coleman (pretty much just a run stuffer) and Walker, who could develop into a good player. He's shown a knack for getting inside pressure.

Yeah, I get that. But if you get Star in 1 he's your starter and Hicks is backup. I'm just curious to see if Hicks can be a force like he showed flashes of last year. I hate to pass up on one of the better OLB rushers we've seen in the last few years to add depth to the line. But I guess with Wilson/Galette/Butler we'll be adding depth to the OLB spot too. Either way, if they get Star as BPA at 15 I'll still JIMP. Just not my first choice.

Smith is part of the line up right now. I want someone that can replace him.

no argument here

You don't think Star and Hicks can play next to each other?

Oh, I most definitely do. I'm just saying in the instance Paddy is talking about. If you get Star to play DE then they probably put him in before Hicks. This is assuming Bunkley at NT and Jordan on the other side. I think they could try Hicks at NT or DE. Or just have him for depth at either spot

Yeah it would be interesting to see how they played them, being that Star and Hicks could both play either positions.

Richardson is 294. He can most certainly play DE.

In a 6'2 frame, leaves a lot to be desired in a 3-4 system IMO. I just don't see him as a quality fit in a 3-4.

Smith could show him how it's done.

Yes. Star can rotate at NT and DE in a 3-4. To be honest, I think Hicks can do the same, although I think he fits better at the DE spot.

I'd LOVE to see our starting down lineman be Jordan, Star and Hicks. :facial:

First and foremost, the team has to find a guy who can consistently get pressure on the QB. There isn't a CB in the league who can survive if the QB gets all day to get rid of the ball. A good pass rush makes average CBs good and good CBs great.

With that said, LB is the most important position in a 3-4 and that's where they should focus. Actually a hybrid LB/DE is the way to go...and that's why Mingo is near the top of the big board.

Sure, if you have a defensive line that can eat up blocks for them

It seems like people are kinda down on Hicks. I think he'll be a starter by the middle of the year. Am I wrong?

But the system we're running asks the front 3 to get in the backfield, not eat up blocks. Yes, linebackers are important too, but getting pressure with your front 3 is very nice.

Who? I think most on this board like Hicks. If anything, we wanted to see more of Hicks last year and less of Evans.

If anything, I think most are concerned with where he will play in a 3-4. NT or DE?

Think he meant ellis...

Either way, I would hope that star drops. My want list would go
1. star
2. jones
3. mingo
4. richardson

Charles Davis posted his mock that has us taking Star at 15 (with Jones still on the board). Looks pretty realistic. I think Eifert looks pretty high at 13, but he is the best TE available, and TB needs a TE in the worst way.
