Went to the fort worth zoo last weekend and when reading a display found out that turtle populations world wide are in danger supposedly. Due to harvest for food, Medicinal, and ornamental purposes the demand is so high there are apparently several U.S. exporters shipping the red ear slider to china, japan, and Korea. One of which is in east TX.
Yall seeing a drop off of theses stringer stealing bastards?

I know a guy up in Monroe that has been farming turtles for 20 years. When they get about the size of a silver dollar they are headed across the big water.

What species?
I'd agree, in regards to sea turtles and land tortoises.
Common freshwater turtles are in great abundance in many states.

Man I've put an ax in the back of 200 already this year.
Picked up ONE turtle net a month ago and it had 42. One snapping turtle and the rest red-ears and/or yellow bellies.
First time I ever had both a snapping turtle and red-ears in a net. Usually one or the other.
Hey W, I remember that red yarn showing in that turtle's mouth like it was yesterday. Yo sick bastid for making him a yard ornament.

I'm not sure what the law is on selling turtles/turtle meat in Louisiana.
I know the limit is one aligator snapper per day in La. Not sure on the common snappers. I never have that problem of catching more than one...most days none.
If red-ears can be sold, please send me contact info. I can help them out. Farmers here tell me they cause damage to the rice. Nothing REAL significant but still do.
