I still remember when this guy was drafted. I haven't seen much of him but if the #2 overall pick is on his 3rd team in 5 years that cant be a good sign.

it's like today, we gained the 2nd draft pick of the draft for free.

It's a one year deal mostly likely at the vet minimum. This is probably his last contract if he doesn't get his shite together.

Well, he hasn't been very good.
This is a one year, vet minimum type deal. Give him a chance to compete, have a player on the team with at least some experience, as opposed to Charlie Brown and the other nobodies we have at LT and backing up RT.
Basically, its hoping we can rehabilitate his career, use him as an insurance policy so we don't have to panic in the Draft. If he doesn't make the team, no big deal, if he does, its a plus.

Smith, 27 later this month, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 draft by the Rams, but he proved to be a complete bust. Concussions forced him to miss 19 games in three years with St. Louis, and he was traded to the Jets for Wayne Hunter last summer. Smith appeared in all 16 games with New York in 2012 as an extra tackle. He'll compete for a roster spot in training camp.
