Did we just shite the compensatory pick bed for signing Jason Smith?
Not likely. Bushrod signed a huge deal, and providing he stays healthy and plays a full season we should get something.

Yes. Happy we got someone.

Guys like this worry me about taking offensive lineman. Jason Smith, Bryant McKinnie and Robert Gallary were all top can't miss/safe offensive line picks.

blueslover is beating a wall down right now we didn't sign Bryant MCkInnie.

Hope we're not counting on him to start

Maybe he comes here and lives up to his draft status. I like the move. Depth if nothing else. Just further enforcing the "draft BPA" stance.

Low risk. Possible high reward. Depth.

Sounds to me like a camp guy who will compete for a spot...I doubt we are him on the roster come September...that is hinging on the fact that his contract is very small.

works both ways Orlando Pace, Joe Thomas, D'brickshaw Ferguson, Michael Oher, Jake Long (until the injury), Willie Roaf (couldn't leave my boy out)
Still say the whole draft is a crap shoot regardless of how good everyone thinks a player is

I think that the replacement player has to play the following season for a certain number of games, in relation to the player that was lost, and there is also some part of the formula that compares the salaries of the players. The bottom line is that the compensatory pick is there to help teams that lose better players than they are able to replace. I don't think the Saints find a decent LT now in FA, so I highly doubt we get nothing from the LT transition.

Let's see how he does protecting a pro bowl qb rather than bottom of the barrel qbs like Bradford and Sanchez.
I actually like this signing. The guy had more problems with concussions than he did with protecting the qb. CSP can get him to where he needs to be.

He's athletic as hell for a big guy but not a very good football player.
Whatever, gotta fill out the 2 deep I guess.

Don't think Smith would preclude signing of any more formidable vet. After the draft teams start moving on with their plans. Then you will see some of the older vets holding out for more bucks (like McKinnie, Max Starks, Woodson, Abraham, Freeny, etc) start to buckle and take whatever they can find.

If you're basing this off the sparse amount of reports that have been posted which stated this, they also said he was a revolving door when playing. Jackson got his yards because he's a freak.

The last place team in my fantasy football league with him on his roster would tell you differently.
I'm just basing my opinion off of the fact that he was having to protect shatty qb's his entire career, so showcasing his talents always seemed to be at a minimum. I really feel like premium qb's can bring the best out of lineman that don't know how good they can be. E.g.: Jahri Evans

GTFO of here with that. A fantasy football teams shitty performance naming 1 player (when the rest of his team or draft probably blew) is supposed to tell me that he is great at protecting the QB because they aren't top tier?

Evans - 18.6 grade Allowed NO sacks and 19 pressures
Two totally different things. Drew shifts around in the pockets so he is highly dependent on good guards. Yes he has a quick release, but they both make each other better.
Tackle is completely different.
Bushrod - 1.5 grade. Allowed 4 sacks and 54 pressures
Strief - -1.5 grade. Allowed 6 sacks and 29 pressures
