Mud motor question?

How many hours are considered a lot on a motor. I am looking at one with 250 hrs on it. Is that a lot?

Its a decent amount of hours but nothing alarming. If the price was right, I wouldn't be scared away by 250hrs. It also depends on what type of hours they were. Did they run in a lot of mud or was it mostly open water hours?

It all depends on how hard the hours were. 250 of easy hours would be better than 100 hours of someone rawhidin the sombitch.

Our MB 35 has 400 and she's running strong. Had to replace the muffler a few times and also had quit a few props replaced but nothing mechanical otherwise.

Depends on what kind of motor. It would be more alarming on a 46 mud buddy than a 36 prodrive.

Also if it were serviced or not.

I cant offer any opinion on the Sport V's or prodrives. I would love to drive one of the new 7000's though...

Not a fan of those motors. The shaft/sleeve bearings and prop can run you some big bucks.

How often do you have to replace bearings on the shaft?

The 31 vanguard is a great motor but I am not a fan of the longtails.

Anyone ever seen a mud motor that is right hand drive?
I'm a righty and really don't like driving with my left.

Not to often if you keep it greased. The prop, well one can see that when it needs changing.
What size boat you planning to put this on?

If run in salt/brackish water it will have some rust and corrosion i can assure. Other than that though long tails are pretty easy to fix. If the price is right then why not.
