The period drama's third season was put on hold as AMC continued its search for a replacement for Shiban. The drama, from Endemol, Entertainment one and Nomadic Pictures, was down 2 million total viewers in its second season after losing ratings behemoth The Walking Dead as its lead-in.
"We look forward to unveiling the next riveting chapter in the complex lives of the denizens of Hell on Wheels,” said Jeremy Gold, head of creative affairs at Endemol Studios and Hell on Wheels EP. "We are delighted that John Wirth will be joining us on this remarkable journey. John is a proven showrunner with a terrific voice and a deep passion for our show."
For his part, Wirth's credits include The Cape, ABC's V reboot, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Love Monkey, Ghost Whisperer, Nash Bridges and Remington Steele.
The 10-episode third season will premiere in the third-quarter of 2013.

Does this show get much of a following on here? I know its not Mad Men, Breaking Bad, or TWD but I think its potentially another AMC great.

That's not a good sign.

Agreed. The way they ended the 2nd season was awesome.

I enjoyed it a lot. These long breaks between seasons are killers though. I quit watching walking dead after season one and V on abc after season one because of the long breaks. I lost interest after such long breaks.

Tha frick?
Do you lose interest in college football because of the long breaks?

It was like a season and a half before it was brought back. That long a hiatus is too long. By the time they rolled back around I had forgotten a lot and just didn't have much interest anymore. I have zero desire to catch up on the walking dead.

It's like The Walking Dead "lite." A lot of story telling issues, unexplained character motivations, thin characters, but I like enough about it to kinda look forward to it each week. Love Bohannon. Hated the way they ended season two.

Really enjoy the show. Not epic awesome or anything, but I think it's solid

I started watching it last season and got into it, was actually thinking it wouldn't come back. It's might not be on the level of the other AMC shows but it is pretty solid.

Haha, couldn't stand that aggravating MFer, but that's good TV.

I really like the show. I thought season 2 was really good. The finale was definitely a shocker. It will be interesting to see where the show goes from here.

I like the show but I hated the way the season ended. Cinematically it was shot well just like the rest of the series but I didn't care for what they did with the story.
But if they bring it back and go back to the original revenge storyline they may be able to salvage the show. There's certainly a place for a western on tv.

I'm not sure if what happened at the end of season 2 will drive him back to his original purpose or steer him further away. The original storyline was much more driven and had purpose, so I agree that they should head back in that direction.
I would not be surprised if what happens in season 3 is as he becomes more invested and involved in the railroad and at the end or mid way point of the season it turns out there is a much larger plot like they (either Hell On Wheels or the Central Pacific RR) enticed the Union soldiers to do what they did because his wife wouldn't sell her land to let the railroad build there and so its really the company he works for or the opposing one thats responsible for everything that has happened.
