It will be my first owned.
Want it for self protection.
Want something durable.
What should I buy?
Also want to buy a shite ton of ammo.

In BR? Goto precision and rent a few. I'd say try out a 9mm and maybe a .45.
Try a glock and a 1911 bc you can only like one or the other.
Oh and :bapple:

Watch my video then make an informed decision. There's much more to it than "durable" and "reliable." The gun has to fit you and you have to know what you're using it for.

I want to get in a CC class when you start doing them.
Think you could hook that up?

A Glock is a good first handgun IMO.

Yeah, good luck with that.

My plan, once I get my stuff, is to do my first class with close friends so I can be embarrassed if I stumble and so they can give me honest feedback. But after that, I'll think of methods of doing more. I have a feeling I'll really enjoy doing them and make it a more regular thing.
But not to worry... I will not forget about the OB.

I'm not a close friend but you know me.
I won't hate on you

For sure. I won't be leaving anyone out.
The main thing I'm waiting for is to get my damn card back from the NRA so I can register with Louisiana State Police. I took the class on 2/17 and my instructor said to expect my card in 4-8 weeks. It's almost 8 weeks so I'm hoping for it any day.
I also take the FE exam on April 13 so once I'm over that hump, I'll have much more free time.
EDIT: Sorry to hijack the thread... Where did the original poster go anyway?

Yeah I'll be taking that soon as well. Not looking forward to it.

You already know who to call for this.

My first handgun was a Beretta Px4 9mm, full size. The .40 caliber was the same price but I opted to go with the 9mm because it was my first handgun. I recommend it. It has relatively little recoil, it's very ergonicmal, and has many safety features built into it.

A ruger revolver.
3" SP101 if you plan on concealing it, 4" or 6" GP100 if not.
Nothing is simpler or more durable than a revolver, and they come chambered in .357mag, which has the best batting average of any handgun caliber for putting down 2 legged critters.
