They also have a margin per die.
This being a very large die, you get less per waffer.
They are making the consumer eat it and it's not working out all that well.

Raising manufacturing cost with the larger dies, adding additional cost with raytracing cores, with the additional stigma of an early tech. Only 2(that I'm aware of) games use this tech 3 months after launch.
It's an early adopter's tax on crack. Add in their normal profit margin and just wow...
They def should've eaten more of the cost.
If consoles don't adopt this, this will only end up worse.

They can't eat more.
Shareholders and all. They will find a way for us to eat it in the long run.

Question for you gurus out there..
I'm looking to upgrade my processor to a 8700k in the next couple months or so. I'm currently using a 7700k, and I did some research and my current mobo doesn't support the 8700k so I'll have to buy a new one if I want to go that rout.
Is it a process to switch out a mobo to support the new chip? I've only ever done complete rebuilds and GPU upgrades. Never needed to switch mobo before.

What is the reason for the upgrade?
What are your other specs?
What is the performance/experience goal?

What's wrong with your 7700?

I should have put a little more context in my original post - sorry!
I have two setups, my primary gaming pc and my second computer my wife primarily uses for work, etc.
My setup specs:
7700k
GTX 1080
16gb RAM
Second:
i7 4820k
GTX 970
32gb RAM
I was thinking of ways I could upgrade my setup, and I thought about getting the newer i7 chip to basically extend the life of that a little bit, and put the 7700k into my second pc to improve that some as well.
I’m buying a new case and doing some QOL improvements to the second PC as well so I guess it was just a project to tinker with the two setups a little bit. There’s nothing technically wrong with my 7700k, I was just thinking of ways to make it better I guess.
ETA: if I had a “goal” in mind - it would be to improve streaming performance. I picked up streaming a little bit, nothing crazy and no real aspirations, but I heard more cores could help that.

Could you use the second computer as the streaming computer?
Have you tried changing to CPU or GPU bound streaming? I can't remember what they are called.

Swap that 4820k with a 4930k or xeon e5 1650 v2

Forgive me, I'm no expert, but I THINK I did switch my encoder to use GPU as well. I watched a video on optimal stream settings and it did seem to help some.

So I take it swapping to the 8700k over the 7700k really isn't that big of an upgrade/worth it at the time?

What kind of cooler you got on that 7700K?
Corsair H100I V2

Not really.
Alright then! Appreciate the input fellas.

Couple you not use the second computer to stream? You'd just need a capture card I believe.

Depending on his resolution/frame rate he plays at a capture card could get expensive
