You just won't be able to purchase outside a pre-order. Rumors had them dropping at the end of this month but nVdia sort of confirmed that is not the case. The planned to release this month but flash prices have forced them to release at the end of summer.
Not only flash prices but an interesting story developed where they can't get the fab space. Another company went in earlier and scheduled up all the lines within the fab. That company being one of the larger BTC ASCI miner companies.
Edt: Check out this article from PCPer

Mid 2018 is the rumored release for the 2080 and 2070

Remember they will be Little not Big. So compute will suck. Not only that nVidia said they are handicapping the gaming line even more in terms of compute. Not only to provide more yeild per waffer they purchase with that smaller die but to force ppl to buy their Tesla and Deep Learning lines.

I imagine $600 for 2070 and $800 for 2080 MSRP.
But of course you'll likely see them on Newegg/Amazon/etc for $2k each

Yep. Thinking 599-699 for the 1080 which but hey maybe 799. Would be kind of crazy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.. I was reading that like "uhhhhh"

Frack the miners! Been waiting forever to update my system and I refuse to pay the current prices!
Thankfully, it has been a slow year for me with new games. I've been playing a pile of older games which work just fine on my 980.

What cost is the wafer. Not the silicon wafer itself but the process of using UV sensitive syndrome to cut pathways into the silicon. The process takes the same amount of time even if you are producing 10 or 100 dies/chips from a single wafer. It still takes the same amount of time.
So if you can produce more chips per wafer, you can off a cheaper product.
Wafer

Honestly this last year sucked for PC gaming outside of PUBG. The only game I really played a ton of on PC this year was AC: Origins.
If it wasn't for my Switch and PS4 gaming would be slow. It was a GREAT year for the PS4 and the Switch's BoTW i'm still playing.

The issue is still bugs. The game is too buggy and it is all on the engine. ARMA's Real Virtual engine was never developed to deal with exploits. Taking parts of Real Virtual then adapted your developed modules in the Take On engine doesn't totally fix the problem. Now you are creating an ad-hoc solution to fix the short comings. So therefore creating a greater number of possible errors than previously present.

No idea how that is possible.
I need them to get this right though
