Yea mine is 1050 but I could OC it to 1100 with no issue. I found the gaming performance barely effected.

Man that looks like an awesome deal

From the Reddit thread

quote:

Some of the reviews say it's voltage locked and has bad coil whine though. One also said that you can't Crossfire them because the cooler blocks the other 16x slot. Not sure if that's true.

The reviews are so confusing.. So many people say it's amazing and some people have small issues.

The biggest issues people are having is that it is voltage locked.

I am trying to make my mind up before they are sold out.

I might regret it but I am going to pass. I think you will see more 7970s on sale soon anyway and the comments put me off especially since I know first hand Sapphire has a horrible RMA service.

I'll let you know how it performs. I think I read that it's on sale until the 30th. If that's the case I'll have it in time to let you know if it's worth it

That cooler is straight shite, one reason it is voltage locked.

Yea but I think I would rather a good quiet cooler on a 7950 than a shitty loud cooler on a 7970. You could probably out do the 7970 with a good 7950 with moddest OC.

Just saying.. something to think about. Sapphire's nearly 2 year design has been much improved. That is their old coolers which are famous for being junk, the new coolers from them are great though.

My sapphire was voltage locked with afterburner but I was able to unlock with Trixx. That card may be the same.

Is that not the same cooler I have?

Yes but 140-150TDP vs 210-220TDP is the difference.

The coolers on the 7970/7950s on the older sapphire models had smaller surface area for the heat sinks.

EDT: Search or ask Blue how hot his old sapphire 7950s could get.

I see what your saying. Mine does the job well. I don't over volt anyway since my overclocks didn't change much when I did.

As for "worth it", you know as well as any of us that the value in RAM only really reflects on SUPERPi runs.

RAM is one thing I've not put a whole of testing and research into. I've used high performance memory in customer builds years ago, from the DDR1 and DDR2 era, and never noticed any real-world performance increase, and it seems RAM is getting "easier" to shop for these days with unlocked CPUs, so I don't put a lot of thought into it.
