Hearing talk of a possible ascension parish "sportsplex" mirroring the fine establishment in BR. Would be nice.

Might deserve its own thread. Never seen one guy taken on 4 or 5 defenders on a drive, get fouled and make the basket. Also, has a great first step on the drive.

Feel free to make one.
I value the opinions of the folks in this thread more than the general public. Some of the civilians that don't keep up enough to know what they're talking about piss me off.

This has been the basketball haven of TigerDroppings.

I doubt we will ever experience a more boring, under the radar recruiting style than trent johnson's recruiting. you almost never heard about anyone until they announced to LSU.
I am excited to see who this year's Mickey/Elbert Robinson like surprise will be. To my understanding we seemed to be on the outside looking in for both of them and snagged them. I am hoping this year it'll be Elijah Thomas.

JJ has done a good job recruiting so far but I think to keep getting the caliber of guys we're getting we have to start winning. We need to make the tournament.

Getting to the tourney and winning when you get there is all about guard play, which is why we have been on the outside looking in for the last 5 years.
Even with the additions of Mickey, Martin and Quarterman, we were the same caliber team as last year. Why? Because this year we didn't have Charles Carmouche. A solid guard who made us a better defensive team on the perimeter, and could give us an occasional slashing element that teams had to defend. We get that type of defender next season with Hornsby, and a point guard that can flat out fill it up in Josh Gray.
There's no question in my mind that this team will win 12 or more SEC games next year and easily make the tourney, even though we lose one of the best college post players in the country. That tells us just how essential guard play is to win in college ball.

He's been working on his outside shot and specifically his 3pt shot. I can see him playing a role similar to Jarell this year.

bubba telling me that we may be interested in bryce dejean-jones, unlv grad transfer. 6'5 guard. probably confirms someone (bridgewater) is on the wya out.

Would be a great pick up! I'm excited about Hornsby and Gray but they're still a bit smallish. A 6'5" wing that can score the ball is deff what we need. Make it happen JJ!

Late Sunday, after finding out that they would not be participating in a postseason tournament, UNLV began the process of moving forward with an eye towards the 2014-15 season. The first order of business for head coach Dave Rice was to make a personnel decision many expected to occur, announcing that junior guard Bryce Dejean-Jones will not return to the program according to the Las Vegas Sun.
Dejean-Jones led UNLV in scoring with an average of 13.6 points per game, but there were some issues with regards to shot selection. The USC transfer would also be suspended for UNLV’s regular season finale at Nevada due to his actions in the immediate aftermath of the Runnin’ Rebels’ home loss to No. 8 San Diego State. Those issues led to the decision being made that Dejean-Jones has played his last game in a UNLV uniform.
“I met with Bryce and his family earlier today. It was decided that he will not be on our team next year,” Rice said. “He is on schedule to graduate this summer so he will remain on scholarship and we will support him academically. During this process he will explore his professional opportunities.”
Dejean-Jones wouldn’t have to go pro, provided he complete his bachelor’s degree as Rice’s plan for the guard seems to be. He could also go the graduate transfer route, becoming eligible immediately at a school of his choice.
Dejean-Jones was one of four UNLV players averaging double figures this season, and two of the other three (forwards Khem Birch and Roscoe Smith) have eligibility remaining. UNLV will add a recruiting class that’s regarded as one of the best in the country, led by center Goodluck Okonoboh and guards Dwayne Morgan and Rashad Vaughn.
And with the arrival of San Francisco transfer point guard Cody Doolin, UNLV will have the distributor the team lacked in 2013-14. Doolin’s presence will help UNLV offensively as they look for primary perimeter scoring options with Dejean-Jones and Kevin Olekaibe having moved on.
