Anyone dined their? Hear it's really good, low key where locals eat.
Anyone know if this restaurant? Reviews seem good.

You forgot, "What should I order?"
ETA: The place is great.

Thanks! What should I order, sounds like soft shell crab is excellent!

I'm seeing nice duck reviews as well.

Had dinner at Irene's last night. Had planned on having the soft shell crab but was not available. The waiter recommended their lasagna so as usual I will go with what a waiter recommends. The Lasagna was one of the best I have ever had. All was fresh including the noodles. They used cajun sausage that was not too over powering with fried egg plant slices on top. The egg plant slices were hot as was the lasagna. You could tell the egg plant slices were placed on top right from the fryer!
If you have never tried Irene's I highly recommend. It's like a neighborhood restaurant where you can tell they all enjoy working together and have for many years. The restaurant is a little worn with great food!

Glad you enjoyed it. I've only been there once, about 5-6 years ago, and I remember it was great.

When the wife and I get back home, we go go to many different restaurants. But the one we ALWAYS go to for that "special" evening is Irene's. Maybe it is just nostalgic for us, but the food is great, prices reasonable, waiters/staff knowledgeable and they treat you special. When we dine at finer establishments we don't like to be rushed so they can turn the table. Irene's has no problem with this and will ask you, if prompted, when you want your app, entree, desert order placed. That being said we will go thru two bottles of wine and spend 2 hours over dinner and tip very well for the understanding of how we enjoy our "special" diners.

Just trying to clarify?
Glad you enjoyed it. I have been meaning to go. Sounds like a nice solid meal.

I agree with the pacing at Irene's. Seems like the negatives it gets are due to a long wait for tables on the weekends, but I appreciate the fact that they afford customers a leisurely pace to their dinner. GF and I love this place and usually go about 6-8 times a year.

I think they now take reservations, but the wait can still be long. I am spoiled as my brother is friends with the mgmt and he makes reservations for us and it still sometimes takes us 15-20 minutes to be seated.

It's incredible. First timers have to order the duck. Enjoy.

That building used to belong to my family. It was a paper buisniness when we had it.
I went a couple of weeks ago and it was great.
I think they take reservations. You have to call with a 504 number, from what I've heard.

Endorsed. Went on a long duck streak, now usually go with a waiter's rec.

I like Irene's but I prefer Tommy's which is similar menu and atmosphere since he's her ex husband and I find it easier to get in.

Dress code
I usually go with slacks and a button down - but it runs the usually stratosphere from jeans to suits. During the summer, not unusual to see folks in shorts.

That place is great. Dress code isnt that strict because just like anywhere in the quarter, you got tourists in there wearing god knows what. But great red sauce and cool atmosphere. I called and got reservations from a 225 number btw. And the bar/waiting area is awesome with a guy playing the piano(heard brad pitt can be seen in there with him from time to time)
