Houston Beer Adventure

Heading to Houston this weekend for a Bachelor trip. When I first roll in on Friday though I'm stopping at the Spec's Warehouse (Store 00 right?) and then D&Q's. Unless D&Q will be a wash stop since I can get everything at Spec's?
What shall I look for and go after that I can't get in Louisiana? I plan on dropping a good amount of money and filling up a suitcase of just beer.
We also talked about Saint Arnold Brewery tour on Saturday. Should we skip that and do Karbach?
Thanks in advance!

You'll probably find anything you want at the Smith St. Spec's.

Dogfish Head, Avery, Great Divide, Deschutes, Ska, Oskar Blues, Sixpoint, Victory, plus all the Texas brands like Jester King, Real Ale, Karbach, etc... this could be a long list.

Absolutely you should skip Saint Arnold and do Karbach. Karbach also has a Friday happy hour tour if you are there in time, then you can do that Friday and hit up Saint Arnold or Buffalo Bayou Brewing on Saturday. Karbach >> Saint Arnold though if you have to pick.

Also, for dinner make you way to one of the flying saucers...either downtown or in Sugar Land...the Sugar Land one is a bit out of your way but better selection

I've been planning a Houston trip for months. Just need a good weekend of nothing going on in NOLA to come along.

Or Hay Merchant.
Or Petrol Station, if he just wants a burger and some good beer.

both are better choices than Flying Saucer .. which I think has very mediocre food.

We went to the Sugar Land location last time I was there (my Mom lives out that way) and I enjoyed the burger... not quite up to Petrol Station but was still good.
Hay Merchant food is on another level, but also another price point.

fricking Petrol Station. "Kitchen's closed for remodeling bro .. but there's a food truck outside." Really was looking forward to trying their burger after a 20 minute cab ride. Awesome beer selection though.

Yes but oh so worth it.

Hit up petrol and flying saucer last time in Houston. Loved both. Food at petrol was great for the hole in the wall place it is.
Being with a group of guys I don't think I'm in charge of food places.

Yes! I enjoy the Karbach tasting much more than Saint Arnold. Saint Arnold was way too crowded and loud. Karbach is partly outside and the weather has been awesome.
On top of the places mentioned, I also enjoyed BRC Gastropup for good food and beer.

Good call, that place was pretty nice. On the pricier side like Hay Merchant but worth it... not as many taps but all were well selected craft brews.

Agreed. It's good for what it is. Hay Merchant is another level food-wise, it's worth the extra money. Saucer is great if you need something downtown. I usually hit it up before Astros games due to proximity to MMP.

Yeah you definitely need a few beers before watching that group of bums!

Perhaps I should find a tequila bar and do shots before the game
Warren's Inn has damn strong drinks.

May have to talk the guys into one of these two places.
And I'll for sure go for Karbach over SA.

Karbachs tour is pretty weak but the beer is good. I have like 15 extra tokens from when I went.

Def do the St. Arnold Brewery. And hit up a food truck outside after. You should be able to get all you need at Spec's

If you've been on one brewery tour, you've been on them all. The beer is what people are there for.

The Hay Merchant is the top choice in Houston. They have a great selection of beer and give ibu and abv for each. They also have a great cask conditioned selection.
BRC is always out of beer and is average food at an above average price. On the plus side, the smug is free in there.
The Saucer is Downtown, but has lots of beer and a standard pup menu.
Rice Village will have some good places to go out, and The Gingerman is there as well as that place with the Bacchi Ball court (lil Help on the name).
I would hit Hay Merchant first on Westheimer (Underbelly is the same building) and then head to Rice Village for fun/crowds/bars. Park in the pay parking right past the Gingerman.
