I would rank him slightly above Basch in that category because he has more development (and the Gabranth plot was not that compelling), and way above Ashe because she is extremely bland. Ashe still would have been a better focus than the one we got, though.

Seriously, though, there's nothing wrong with Carth other than a little bit of hamfisted early character writing where they really want to let you know that he is mulling over some generic war hero trauma.
