What an abysmally stupid movie, and I'm guessing it's because the source material is stupid. Somebody please tell me there's a better story within the books than the crap that I just witnessed. No sense, whatsoever, of any social desperation or fear or hysteria or dementia that would allow such an event... no sense of history that would lead to such a point... no sense of outrage or protest, as one would expect, from at least a small segment of the population... a story with no sense, whatsoever.
I couldn't help but compare it to "The Running Man"... was it a ripoff thereof? Couldn't touch it... couldn't match the depravity of the audience or the genius of Richard Dawson... nor the exhilaration in the fights. Hell, even "The Truman Show" was miles better in depicting the character and motives and emotions of its live public audience.
"1984" this wasn't.
And maybe I missed something... it was only a small part of my dissatisfaction, anyway... but how is it that holograms can actually eat people?

2nd worse cinematography ever behind the 30 minutes I saw of Contraband

The book is much better. The first book is actually pretty good, parts of the second are too. Third one is terrible

Yeah, the book actually explains all that. The movie is just completely rushed all the way through and removes some key elements. It was very disappointing to me.
This is a pretty spot on review of what is wrong with the movie: LINK

Bc it isn't

The movie is a watered-down version of the book. It removed some of the novel's more violent and adult themes to secure a PG-13 rating.

A movie so shitty that even Jennifer Lawrence's acting couldn't save it.

To be fair, Katniss is a pretty boring character in the 1st book.

cinematography
It was like watching 10 minutes of Mao's Last Dancer combined with all of The Running Man.
The cinematography for the "action" scenes was no better than Running Man's was filming in some indoor studio in 1987.

Same here. I didn't think Hunger Games was bad but I didn't read the books so I have no clue how true it is/was.

like someone else already said, the first two books are pretty good. The last one is probably one of the worst books in terms of trying to understand what the frick is going on.

Heck, I didn't think the book was much better.
Just a different take on Battle Royale, Running Man, or The Long Walk.
Toned down to get PG-13 when it clearly should be R.

The 3rd was enjoyable

Nah the books are horrendously written. I actually thought the movie was significantly better.

It was a dumb plot to begin with. If the movie was that bad I don't see how a book could make it better.

Is Hunger Games the new cool movie to hate on now?

Well, this is the Movie/TV Board.
I liked it and care not what anyone thinks. It could have been better, easily, but I thought it was cast pretty well. Not as good as the book, but is any movie ever as good as its paper counterpart?

I found the third one enjoyable up until the end of the book. As I got closer and closer to the final pages, I wondered how the author was going to wrap the story up with so little time remaining. Then I read the end and found she couldn't wrap it up. One of the worst endings to a book I have ever read.
ETA: Admittedly, I did like the tone of the ending if that makes sense.
