I think...well, hope...that I will get serious replies here.
Going the middle of next month for a couple of weeks - does anyone have any food recommendations?
I will try to keep track of where we eat, what was good, what sucked, then report back for anyone else going.

Ok, there is a pizza place close to the Yellow Hostel that was pretty tasty. It has been since 05 that iw as there. FYI, no one orders round full pizzas there, just slices. iLooked like an idiot.
There is another restaurant, but i need to find the matchbook from the place for the name, it is Trattoria something but i cant remember the name of it.
There is a gelato place (was) down one of the alleys by trevi fountain taht was awesome. I have no idea any more info than this lol.
I would check out one of the lets go europe books for recommendations- it has pricing and genre options
I have a journal that id have to go back and check and see if i wrote down stuff and such.

There are so many places in Rome and I haven't spent that much time there...so I'll let someone else help you here.
As for Florence, you have to get a Bistecca Fiorentina(Florentine Steak). Personally, I recommend Sostanza. You eat so much pasta and bread while you're in Italy, if you have a Florentine Steak at the end of your trip(when you're sick of pasta), it will be one of the most glorious steaks you will ever eat.
In case you don't get a lot of legit responses in this thread, there are quite a few good ones in this thread from a month ago... LINK

There are apps named Eat Rome and Eat Florence written by Elizabeth Minchilli, an expat who has lived in Italy most of her life. She writes a great blog - www.elizabethminchilliinrome.com in addition to writing for NYT and food mags. The apps are kind of like a curated Urbanspoon.
For a fee, she will prepare a dining itinerary for you. You tell her what part of the city you will touring each day and she gives you a list for coffee, lunch, snack, cocktails, dinner and gelato. Every rec was great and it was nice to have great choices in the area we were in.
She also does food tours of Rome. Really nice, one of the high points of our trip.

I don't remember specific names but Jesus try some gnocchi. It's fresh everywhere and it's on the most amazing food experiences you can have.
Oh and this pizza is the bomb just about everywhere. And nearly every panini shop is delicious

Tons of great dining in those two cities. Lots of great recommendations already posted. I had good luck at these places.
Florence:
Trattoria 4 Leoni
Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco
In Rome:
La Taverna del Ghetto in the Jewish Quarter
La Vecchia Locanda near the Pantheon.
You're gonna have a great time.

There is a resuturant on VA Delle Muratte that was excellent. I cannot recall the name but when walking to the trevi fountain you should pass it. Excellent pizza and ravioli. Probably the best I had when I was there.

Doing a similiar trip in early November this year. I'm sure that time of year will be a bit rainy and cooler but seems to be the best time for our group to go... ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

To all of you posters who have been to any or many of the above-mentioned places, all I have to say is: you suck.
I am extremely jealous.

Sadly, I don't remember all the names.
But, in Rome, in that HUGE roundabout near the Spanish steps, they have this VERY good restaurant. There are huge bushes in front of it that blocks off the people eating from everyone else. They only take reservations. Probably the best meal I had in Rome.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)
