I agree. Kunis wasn't great as the wicked witch. Weiz would have been better and I was surprised when the twist came that Kunis was the WWoftheW and not Weiz.
SPOILER (apparently)
Not to be a jerk but their names give away who they were in the original. You know going in that Weisz (Evanora) is the one under the house (WW of East) in WofO.

Agree. All the kids clapped at the end. Non 3d made it much more enjoyable. Especially when it switches from b&w to color and screened widens.

Shitty dialogue
Everyone is miscast. Williams, Weis, and especially kunis are really really bad in this movie
I don't know why they cast the midget from bad Santa
Disney seemed overly eager to show us there are indeed black people in oz. at one point a black munchkin pops onto the screen to say one word. I like having black people in oz, I did not like Disney ringing a bell and shouting "we have black people!"
Watching this, they should have cast zach Braff as the wizard, Franco fricking blew, and Braff was the only actor who didnt turn in a complete dud of a performance
completely disagree with all of this, except for Franco. He wasn't great, IMO. but after hearing that Downey Jr and Depp turned down the role, I was disappointed. Either one would have been much better.
The dialogue was fine.
I thought Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz were actually quite good.
Not a fan of Kunis as a actress, but she was ok in this one.

Michelle Williams needs to keep her hair long. She looks just like how she did at the beginning of Dawson's Creek before her character became screwed up

Some friends saws it on the weekend and liked it okay, but were scathing on James Franco's performance.

because a lot more actors could've done better job (Johnny Depp)& I've never been a fan of Franco since he's always seemed to artsy for my taste

Just got back from seeing it, and boy did I really not like this movie. Its just typical Hollywood bullshite when milking money out of a famous franchise.
First of all they royally fricked up the Wicked Witch of the West. Mila Kunis may be the biggest miscast since Kate Bosworth played Lois Lane. I am struggling to think of a decent actress who would be worse for the part. But what they did to her character is just baffling to me. She's merely a girl who instantly falls in love with someone and then turns into psycho stalker once he leaves her without telling. On top of that being evil isn't really her fault at all and she was merely tricked into it; that's a huge "frick you" to the history of the character. Couldn't she just be incredibly damn evil, since I don't think we're led to think anything else in The Wizard of Oz. The Wicked Witch is not supposed to be a sympathetic character, and certainly not a psycho stalker. Wasn't a fan of Franco in it either.
Also part of the fun of the Wizard of Oz were the companions on the journey, and the companions blow on this one. Plus I really see no reason to have the Wizard hook up with the witches, especially it being the climax of one of the witch's entire life. I think the movie would have also been better and truer to the spirit of the original film with some musical numbers, but the only one that starts James Franco interrupts it and acts like this film is better than going into song.
I do think the film is gorgeous and they certainly got the look of Oz right, but other than that I really didn't like this movie.

And here's a classic article from Cracked why Glinda the "Good" Witch is actually one of the best villains of all time: LINK

This too really jarred me. I just expected him to start dog cussing at any given second, and he just wasn't funny and completely clashed with the environment of Oz.

why were most of the Tinkers old black guys?

They went way too much out on the diversity. think there was a person of each race on there, when I hardly think that Oz has that much racial diversity in it. Not every place is like America where there are tons of races.

I advised her to watch it before seeing this one. Is that necessary?
I think it's supposed to be a prequel, so no.

I thought franco was perfect for the role. The movie as a whole was pretty good, not great.

My expectations were a little higher for this movie than they should have been, but the trailer was so good, I couldn't help it. The movie, however, had few redeeming qualities whatsoever. It looked cool.....if you saw it in 3d. Too many scenes that required 3d to enjoy IMO. Other than that, it was abysmal. The china doll was the only decent actor in the whole thing. James Franco looked high and awkward the entire time, and ended up being nothing more than a man whore magician. Mila kunis looks good, but her character was on fast foward the entire time. Falls in love immediately, throws out the lifetime together card, and goes straight to wicked murderous witch after getting dumped, with no good reason as to why. Overall, 2/10, because it looked cool. Hell, avatar was better than this.

No, it wasn't. This was much more believable, and that's saying something.
I went and saw this Friday in 3D. I'm not particularly a Franco fan, and I didn't think he was great in the role. I do like that they tried to incorporate some of the books into this while also trying to make it a prequel to the film.
And that's the problem. The original is too ingrained in our heads with Judy Garland and musical numbers for this not to be compared to it. Hell, look how Return to Oz (another Disney movie) fared in our collective reviews.
When you watched the Wizard of Oz for the the first time, did you really worry about plotholes like the Wicked Witch of the West not offing the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion while they were walking? No, because it's a kid's movie for the most part.
This one is, too. The only difference is that we all have the original ingrained in our brains and approach movies with logic. Can't really have too much logic weighing you down when China people are alive and talking, flying monkeys wear bellhop uniforms, and a broken heart makes you turn into a acid-tear crying chick.
The movie was good for what it was. It wasn't Toy Story, but it certainly wasn't the Phantom Menace.

Movie was pretty boring. I didn't enjoy it at all.
Franco was terrible. He always looks high and his acting feels so flat. It's like he's just reciting lines. Depp would have been much better, and I agree with a previous poster that Zach Braff would've made a better Oz.
I didn't buy the witches for one second. The casting for those roles seemed off.
My wife, who LOVES to Wizard of Oz, was even underwhelmed by it. She came in wanting to love it, but afterwards was like "meh".

I don't know. I bought that the guy liked blue cat vagina and flying velociraptors. It just felt like everything on here was in extreme flashfoward mode to where nothing really made sense.

To be honest, all the Wicked Witch really wanted was those ruby slippers back, which were rightfully hers. I'm not sure if she was particularly interested in offing them, just making that more of a last resort. The only time she directly tries to murder them is once they come to the castle to murder her, which I think its perfectly understandable. Plus she at least kept tabs on them well.

It has to work within the context of its own universe though, which it doesn't. This is like this year's Alice in Wonderland, in that it completely misses the point of what the universe is about. The film looked like Oz, but it didn't feel like Oz.

I'd say it was worse than TPM, but not quite as bad as AotC.
