I agree. But the fact that this Joe Bisceglie guy called the Melky suspension 4 weeks before it was announced, you have to give *some* kind of attention to this.

Why would the MLB wait at least 4 weeks to suspend Melky? I thought that the suspension was announced and afterwards the player is given a chance to appeal.

I think it's a little more reliable than the BOL rumor about les miles you were citing earlier as the reason you're exercising judgement now before biting hook line and sinker on rumors.

Good question but i expect they have protocols in place that require them to re-test (a split sample) after a postive screen before confirming it as a positive screen.

Not at all. You treat it just like many of the "annointed" ones on TD and the SEC Rant -- there are a few people that have come across big stories due to personal relationships. That means that have access to certain information, and have the potential to break a big story and be right about it.

Does it mean you believe them right away? No. But you don't just immediately discount them just because their name is not Buster Olney.

Especially when he DID break the biggest PED suspension a month before anyone else last year.

I'm not saying to believe this guy - but this rumor is getting some air time on sports radio (even if ESPN is not talking about it). So, it IS topical to the MSB.

Exactly -- there is a grace period before the go public.

Kind of like, "look, you've been bad. get your story straight so you don't make everyone look bad, and then we'll announce."

Melky took his "don't make us look bad" period and created a made up web site and product.

Which was awesome by the way. I liked his never say die attitude...and the comedy it brought with it.

What happened last year was the beat writer for the Giants, Andrew Baggarly, tweeted that he heard an unfounded rumor about Melky and steroids. Only a couple people said anything about it, most people took it as BS. Baggarly asked Melky about it, then he wrote that long apology because Melky told him Dodger fans probably made it up. Then 2/3 weeks later he was suspended.

Not at all saying that's what has happened here, just giving background

What happened to that awesome water-brain post?

Not sure what happened there. I shouldn't have gotten tilted and responded like that. A certain amount of skepticism is certainly warranted here. I just didn't agree with thinking this "rumor" is the same as the Les Miles thing. Especially since everyone knows that the Les Miles rumor was simply a smoke screen to cover up Studdrawa's affair with a production manager at a Zebra Cakes factory.

That's what it was. Admin probably saw the "rumor," which you quoted, and deleted it all.

Who care anymore really.

Only baseball purists care at this point. The majority of the league is dirty. Why single out a few big names when its so widespread.

IMO steroids saved baseball that great summer where Big Mac and Sosa slugged it out.

Time to just accept the roids.

People "care" because baseball is the only sport that records are sacred and have real importance it seems. I'm sure NFL players are on roids, so are probably NHL, basketball, and soccer it is too common for any sport to not be clean.

I don't believe this at all...Melky was having a sick year and he prob guessed it and now he's using one right guess to make sure no one drafts them in the early rounds of his fantasy drafts...smart strategy

Who cares if they're taking steroids, or who cares if they get caught? Because if i were a yankees fan i'd care if i was staring down almost 1/3 of the season without these guys.

yea but we haven't...so it is news and important news at that, if these guys got busted for steroids.

The Anatomy of this sort of thing was explained to me a week or so ago and I was told this type of thing was disgusting, wrong, evil, perverse, etc. and wouldn't be allowed on this site. Has that changed?

They're also supposed to go through the entire appeals process before anything goes public. the MLB won't just sit on positive tests. They release it when the CBA allows them to release it.

Extremely plausible. I mean... er... I doubt that it happened that way.

On another topic, did ya'll hear that Pujols, Hamilton, Trout, Harper, Buster Posey, Bumgarner, and Lincecum all tested positive for West Nile and they'll all be out indefinitely???

He obviously has a source within MLBs drug testing agency.
