My 2013 Saints Mock Draft

trade with bengals 15 for 21 and 53
21- Xavier Rhodes CB, FSU
Reports are the Saints are looking to draft CB's. Xavier Rhodes is a good fit here. He is a long athletic corner who can cover big physical receivers, something PRob and Greer struggled at last year.
53- Jesse Williams NT, Bama
I was contemplating Brandon Williams here, but he doesn't have the value for a 2nd round pick. So pick the other Williams who has second round value. Williams anchored the line for the best defense in the country. He is a very large man who has great strength.
75- Tyrann Mathieu CB/S, LSU
Tyrann Mathieu was reported saying how much he likes Rob Ryan after an interview with the Saints. I have a feeling that the Saints feel the same. The Saints had trouble forcing turnovers last year, TM7 wasn't nicknamed the Honey Badger for nothing. His tough tenious style will help the Saints get the ball back to their offense.
106- Ryan Otten TE, SJSU
He was the top target for one of the top quarterbacks in next years draft. I was considering putting Christian Michael here, but the Saints have enough RBs even though it looks like the Saints have serious intrest in Michael. Otten is a good receiving TE, but he also is a solid blocker, which the Saints had in David Thomas. You can never have enough weapons with this offense, i think he would complement Jimmy well.
135- Stansly Maponga DE/OLB, TCU
Started this year at TCU, even though he didn't have big numbers he was an impact player on one the top defensive units in the nation.
171- Cornelius Washington, ILB, Georgia
Saints need some depth at MLB so why not take a risk on a guy in later rounds.

The last thing tm7 needs is to be brought back into Nola with all his childhood friends and influences. IMO

Doubt he lasts to 75 anyways.

Because NOLA is the only place where there is weed, synthetic or natural.

BTW, I'm not saying that we need to draft Mathieu. I'm just saying that is a poor reason not to, unless you have reason to believe that he has a serious drug or alcohol problem, which would mean that he would face those demons anywhere.

I agree
he;s more likely to return to the drugs if he is in a foreign place, imo

I totally agree that any NFL player can get in trouble no matter where they are. But, I do think that it would be easier to fall back into the trap of doing bad things when you know more negative influences that are already there and have known them for your entire life.
And I've posted about the TM situation coming to NOLA and I'd love to see him play here.

I would love that draft honestly. Except I don't think Rhodes will last that long. If he doesn't Id say someone like Ogletree in the first. He seems to have been getting later first round grades and I think it would be a good idea to have at least one LB with 34 experience.
Not sure how sold I am on Hawthorne either.

I'll take it. And if TM7 isn't there in the 3rd I'd take Corey Lemonier from AU or the best FS/SS on the board.
Posted on 3/3/13 at 6:18 pm to Neauxla
Would love to take Lemonier. Sadly, he will be gone by mid 2nd round. He had 1 of the best combines out if anybody and is a damn good player. Wouldn't be shocked to see him go in the 1st tbh.

Oh. I thought he had a 3rd round grade pre-combine. I haven't really kept up.
Posted on 3/3/13 at 6:28 pm to Neauxla
Yea he, and the entire auburn team for that matter, had a down year. But, he did really well at the combine and he can make plays all over the field. Good fit for any team looking for someone on the edge.

When will this stupid, nonsensical response stop?

Rhodes?
2nd best corner in the draft, who some consider the best.

And Jesse Williams
Has been an incredible run stuffer every year at Bama. Would anchor this 34 front for years and year.

If we trade and get back a 2nd I would love for us to grab a safety there.
Posted on 3/3/13 at 7:11 pm to Brettesaurus Rex
I am not sold on Williams myself. Most Bama players on Defense are extremely overrated and they put up better numbers then they should because of all the talent around them.

Hightower and Upshaw did pretty damn well last year.
