e I think Seinfeld is an aggressively mean-spirited show. All of the main characters are horrible people who repeatedly do awful things to each other and their acquaintances. Sure, a show like Always Sunny is the same way, but the central joke is how terrible they are, and they are routinely punished for being awful people. Seinfeld glorifies their narcissism and misanthropy.
well, Seinfeld was also being created during a time period when shows like Full House and Family Matters, yackfests of morality were hitting their stride.

Seinfeld was forged as a partial backlash to the bubblegum, cookie cutter, after school special type shows.

It's easy to look back now and call them mean now...because they were essentially the first and we've been inundated with copycats.

Very true. Which is why it worked at the time. Aggressive cheerfulness is just as terrible. But removed from that context, I find the show hard to watch. Which is why I think it hasn't aged well.

I also called it a good, quality show. Which it was. Just not as good as Friends. Or Mad About You, while we're at it (well, in its first 2-3 seasons).

I don't see them as wildly different at all... two enjoyable DVR-worthy comedies with some really funny moments/episodes and others that miss the mark.

That said, I didn't watch either of these from the beginning, and haven't ever gone back to watch them all the way through.
