I had a 2005 Trailblazer that had the same problem. Unfortunately, there's no easy fix. They have to replace the whole instrument panel which of course is dealership only. If I remember correctly it cost about $200.

had it happen on my 2004 tahoe. nothing would work at all so I used my GPS as a spedometer for a while. Had to replace the entire instrument cluster. probably an easy fix yourself, but still have to take it to dealership to get calibrated, so I just let them do it all.

If I am not mistaken, most cars have a speedo gear on the transmission to get speed. It would know it regardless of the cluster. Maybe mojo can chime in if he is not too busy asking about blacks on the OT
This happens on almost every GM truck. That and the lights on the radio going out. Well, also the running lights going out every 6 months. And I almost forgot that they still haven't figured out how to keep a tailgate handle cover on.

Or the a/c fan speed controls. That at least they will warranty under a recall.

quote:Not so. Its the stepper motor on the speedo thats gone. If you can solder do it yourself. Motor online is about 7 bucks. There are also youtube vids that show you how to fix it and keep the speedometer correct.

So true!
What's the deal with the tailgate handles anyway? I'd say 50% of the ones I see aren't there.

No idea. These problems have been going on since '99 and it is just comical that they haven't been fixed yet

Lol, nobody ever accused me off being mechanically competent in any way. So to clarify, for me there was no easy or cheap fix if I ever wanted to drive it again.

Happened to my truck, there was actually a recall on this at one point, might be worth calling the GM dealership and running your VIN number. I ended up only having to pay the labor charge to replace mine.
