1) Beauty and the Beast
2) The Lion King
3) Aladdin
4) The Little Mermaid
You're around my age, so I'm stunned that the Lion King can be that far down. Little Mermaid I can defend because Ariel is dumb, doesn't get the tragedy that is coming to her, and learns nothing in the end.

I really don't think so at all, especially since it is wrongfully credited as starting the Disney Renaissance (I'd give "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "The Great Mouse Detective" that honor really). Really the story is about a girl who sells her soul and main talent to Satan for a man she doesn't know. You sort of deserve the worst when you make such a dumb deal. Really, she just saw that he was a hunk of man meat, and that's the extent of her requirements. Gaston would have been just appropriate of a love interest as Eric was.
Some of the greatness of "Beauty and the Beast" though is it challenges the formula Disney has set up. Up to this point, pretty much every princess story is just hot guy falling in love with hot girl for no other reason aside from the fact that they are both attractive people. Belle is proactive, intelligent, sacrificial, and truly kind and understanding. In just any other Disney film, Belle would be easily smitten and Gaston having a basically identical personality would have been the protagonist.
I think Ariel is more of a dumb, naive, spoiled girl who follows her idiotic impulses no matter the cost. Ursula is great of course, and I like some of the supporting characters, I just can't get over Ariel really. The only aspect of her personality I like is her curiosity really.

That's why you're my favorite M/TV poster
Eta: Ursula, Sebastian, flounder and scuttle make LM for me. Pretty spot on with beauty and the beast.

Also I would credit LM as the beginning. GMD, while great, doesn't really fit the genre. I think you're selling LM a little short, but yes your analysis is accurate.

As I said, I like the supporting characters, its just Ariel and her lack of giving a frick on what this could mean for her father's kingdom in general. Jasmine just doesn't want to get married to pricks, to where she's understandable. I know Ariel wants to be human, and her father is sort of a dick (who by the way, unlike his daughter, does learn something at the end), but there has to be some other way. It would be like giving me 3 days with unlimited income to legitimately find a girl sexually attracted to me, but in exchange they turn me into Quasimodo. Seems like anyone who has half a brain knows that chances are I'm fricked from the start.

I don't like the lion king because I'm not a huge fan of celebrity voice acting
Whoopi
JTT
Broderick
Jeremy irons meh
Nathan lane and JEJ
I don't think there is anything extraordinary about the animation, I hate that it's animals, I don't care for the story, I just don't like it, but it is probably the single most popular Disney film.
Visually, I think Sleeping Beauty is disney's best work. Everything about that movie is great and my friends who laugh when they see the DVD can get fricked.

Ehh, I think Lion King does it fine. Really the big initial culprit, and the honorary first Dreamworks film, is Aladdin. Robin Williams is the genie and they wrote the character with Robin in mind. I really think this is among the first instances of that happening in animation. The hyenas were somewhat, but they weren't major characters either, just thugs. I seriously doubt they were writing The Lion King with JTT and Brodrick in mind as being Simba.
Ever since then, although it has calmed down somewhat in recent years, Dreamworks went apeshit with it and then a bunch of other studios began to copy them. Hell, it took until "How to Train Your Dragon" for Dreamworks to calm down on it. I too hate how people who have no business voice casting (Ben Stiller, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan (that one is a real head scratcher), etc), but hopefully it will soon calm down.

Nathan lane steals the show, and James earl jones is James earl jones but the rest of it is painful. Jeremy irons singing, eek.

It might be, ive never really thought about it. There has to be an earlier one.

I don't think it ever will. Now some B, c list celebrities give great performances (i absolutely love JW and judy greer in archer) (the last few batman animated films are also a good example) from time to time but I don't go to see animated movies because will smith is in them, but I guess some people do.

Actually, that wasn't Jeremy Irons singing "Be Prepared". It was Jim Cummings.

There were some, but no really big examples. The biggest one that comes to my head is Vincent Price in "The Great Mouse Detective".

The fish movie Will Smith was in was the all-time low. The only person in that film who could possibly do voice acting was Jack Black. It was incredibly attrocious.
