another great defensive drafted player, gone after 2 years
Oh yeah that's right, thats all on Loomis when its defensive side of the ball. Payton has no say so about the defense, the whole drafting and scouting structure of the saints crumbles when it comes to the D cause Loomis takes on the role of Chief Defensive position drafter and nobody else had any say so in it including most importantly the head coach.
I'd rather a GM that knows when to cut bait when they should rather than keeping a player on roster so they can appear they didn't make a bad choice. LesterGearl.

I think this def opens up a slim possibility of the Badger in the third/fourth
At this rate we absolutely need another CB/S regardless.

Not the 3rd but if he's there about the 5th or so...

If Mathieu (I refuse to call him Honey Badger anymore) is there in the 5th and he had a decent showing at the combine, then I'd be ok with taking a flyer on him.
I don't like that a 3rd rounder is gone after 2 years. Those mid round picks are the depth of your team. I did like Corey White before he got hurt. He had some valuable playing time. I also liked Marquis Johnson in the preseason but he didn't make the team.

Sounds like the Loomis is nothing but a bean counter when analyzing great moves and he is a bum when a guy doesn't pan out mentality. This kinda throwing shite against the wall and seeing what sticks approach avoids the facts.
Drafting is like a batting average. HERE is a great piece on the success rate in drafting. Excerpts-
Judging productive players or players who have NFL-caliber traits over the last five or six years, he sees a .560 hit percentage for the first and second rounds; .350 for the third, fourth and fifth rounds; and .333 for the sixth and seventh rounds.
“Even in the first two rounds, you’re going to miss 44 percent of the time,” Reinfeldt said. “… It’s a tough business. There is a lot of exposure to it. I think you need to be realistic and compare historically to what other clubs have done.”
--------------------
It is clear that the Saints have had much better success in players on the offensive side of the ball. Could a whole staff of scouts be that much better on one side than the other? I doubt it. Four DCs in 7 years tells you about the instability and lack of success on that side. Just like we see some "Who's he?" players thrive in Payton's dynamic offense you'll see no names become names in a Dick LeBeau defense.

Welll I guess this leaves any doubt as to whether we are going to sign Jimmy
Johnny had every opportunity to show what he had last season and it just didn't work out....hopefully we find a good way to address this position in the offseason

If HoneyWeed is there in the 5th, we still should stay away from him. He will not be a good CB in the NFL, and we don't need a returner. Let him be someone else's mistake
Serious question.... how many LSU players have been successful in the NFL the last 10 yrs? Off the top of my head I can think of Bowe and Faulk. Peterson is to be determined.
I don't want any LSU players on this team. Maybe I'm just burned out by the continuous stream of "hopefully we get ---fill in LSU player--- in the draft" every year that I am simply burned out on this subject.

wut?
And what about Devery - certainly no failure. How about Stephen Peterman, or Andrew Whitworth, or Donnie Jones (I know, I know), or Bradie James, or Nate Livings, or Kyle Williams, or Reuben Randle, or Todd McClure, or Brandon LaFell, or LaRon Landry....??
I could do this all day. LSU has plenty of players who are having nice careers in the NFL

I wasn't saying that all LSU players were failures in the NFL. I just wanted to see a list of the successes. I agree that some of the ones you listed have been good if not great. It was a serious question looking for an answer, not a "gotcha" question implying that LSU produces nothing but failures.
As per your list, Whitworth is the most successful of them. He's been incredible in Cin. Plus Ryan Clark has been outstanding as well. LaRon Landry has been a dissapointment though, so I wouldn't put him in the list (though he isn't a bad player).
successes:
Peterman, Whitorth, James, Clark, Williams, McClure
Disapointments:
Landry, Lafell (he hasn't done much)
To Be Determined:
Randle
The thing I noticed here is that OL is the one position LSU has succeded the most at, which I am not surprised to see.
Keep off the list all together:
Jones (No kickers allowed!!!)
Serviceable:
Livings

Corey Webster, Addai, Bowe, Flynn for a 7th Rder, Ridley, & Sheppard all definitely grade to the upside as well
