Recommend a bank for checking

Recently married and looking into opening a joint checking account with the wife in the BR area to set up mortgage drafts, utilities, cable, etc. My current checking account has perks like refund of fee charges for ATM withdrawals and reward points for using the credit feature of the bank card. I need to open a local account to handle the few physical transactions (cash, deposits) we incur. Looking for recommendations for folks in the BR area who have had good experiences with local banks, specifically with regards to checking accounts, and the qualities that make it advantageous.

USAA. Free checking and savings for all. Insurance products require membership eligibility.

Home bank is a good local bank. Small bank that just opened offices in BR area.

I used Capital One when I lived there. "Big bank" amenities but small bank access, IMO.
I moved and now have to use Bank of America. If it tells you anything I have put maybe two paychecks in my Cap One acct in the last year and I made enough in interest to owe taxes. Vast majority of my paychecks have gone to BoA and the interest rate is such crap I made like $9.

If you are eligible most credit unions are a better value for simple checking accounts.

United Community Bank (UCB). Refunds all atm fees, and 2% on checking (up to 25k). We've been nothing but pleased with them.
