If he left this year, I don't think he goes first round, which means he isn't even promised a roster spot. He needs to develop a better game away from the basket. He needs to work on a 15 footer. To me, he could become very similar to David West who can post up or play pick and pop style offense.
He isn't 7' tall or anything. He is 6'9" and semi athletic. He moves well, but he isn't a sky high jumper which the NBA has started moving toward.
With work on his jump shot and more consistency moving toward the basket, he could be a top 15 pick. Right now he is mid 2nd round IMO. Would be an injustice to him to leave right now.
Excellent break down. That's the way I see it too. Right now he's putting up numbers with his brute strength and great effort. At 6'9 he won't be able to rely solely on that in the NBA. If you watch him shoot from 15ft and beyond, you can tell that he doesn't have a bad stroke. He just hasn't shown he can consistently make those shots. Last year with Hamilton playing the 5, JOB's outside game was a little more expanded. With this year's team, you can tell that CJJ really wants him to be just a back-to-the-basket post player (not his strength IMO, but he has certainly improved). Hopefully he stays next season. He should benefit from not having to be LSU's ONLY inside threat (thus drawing constant double and triple teams). He's not uncomfortable ballhandling. He's got a decent looking shot, and the strength and desire to be a force inside. There's no reason that he couldn't be a Brandon Bass type player for LSU.
