Took a few more posts than I thought it would for this movie to be mentioned.
I think those two words put together should be an auto-ban.

that is a messed up movie with a messed up ending, woohoo.
a movie like the Mist, where you're rooting for these characters, who then just lose all hope for survival...then get rescued too late. THAT is messed up imo. When the ending just guts your soul

Vertigo and Chinatown are both GREAT choices. In Vertigo when the movie ends with Stewart just standing up there in tower with the bells sounding I went all Nancy Kerrigan in this B...WWWHHYYYYYYYYY?!?! Citizen Kane's ending is pretty dark as well...the sled being thrown in the fire and the secret forever dying with him.
SPOILERS below
The first movie that came to mind for me was Repulsion. The whole movie was "f-ed up" but the ending was really twisted. The sister and her boyfriend getting home from their vacation to find two dead people in the apartment and Carol laying under the bed in a lifeless state. Zooming in on her in the old family picture the movie ends.

That goofy smile he has on his face after having his memory wiped so he can blissfully go on having sex with his own daughter is one of the creepiest moments in film history.

Requiem For A Dream is hopeless. Probably the most depressed i've ever felt after a movie was over.
Chinatown is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is a terribly sad ending and sticks with you, but not as hopeless as Requiem.

Requiem for a Dream is the correct answer. I've never felt so uncomfortable and disturbed while watching a movie than those last 20 minutes

Did you know that the person who funded that movie was "The Nash" from Wonderland fame - not the actor, the actual Nash himself. So yeah, it was funded by a drug dealer.

I'm with you on that. I was kidding about AS. But, the abover statement is true. I felt depressed and exhausted after watching that
