Will Lawson Sign With Kentucky?

Apparently he visited. Some cat fans are pumped:
One knowledgable poster stated the facts:
He was quickly and properly set upon by the mob.
Also some chatter by some Vol fans hoping Jones pursues him.
Lawson really wants to be at LSU...tough situation for him. Odd that rumors are that he has grade issues while his family and coach offer assurances that his grades are fine.

That’s right, an LSU commit is waiting to sign with LSU because he wants to see UK. This is real life, folks.

Nice to be competing with LSU and Florida for recruits

According to LSU sites, Lawson is having some clearing house issues that may not allow him to qualify for the Fall anyway. That’s the reason for the switch to a gray shirt offer. He claims to have the grades and test scores, but apparently, some of the courses may not qualify even though he passed them. He’s not happy about the switch, though, so he could sign with UK. Just hope it’s not another Porter situation.

Thanks for the clarification.

I read that his grades are fine. The difference of opinion is whether the NCAA would accept an online summer school course he took and passed that is part of his core curriculum.
LSU doesn't think it'll pass NCAA muster. Denham Springs thinks it will, that it has state of Louisiana certification and a bunch of Livingston Parish students have taken the course and the course has been widely accepted by colleges as legit.
What's missing from the picture, as far as I can tell, is how that translates to what the NCAA thinks about the course. Harvard may accept the class for students applying there, but that doesn't necessarily mean it'll pass the clearing house. So I'm not sure which side is right.
I'm neutral on whether LSU had legitimate reason to think they'd be stuck with an ineligible signee or if LSU simply wanted to make room for, say, Bower, and wanted Lawson just to delay entry.
Here's the thing I keep looping back to...if the NCAA isn't going to approve the course and the kid won't have enough core hours, there is little he can do now to rectify it. In other words, grayshirting wouldn't get him eligible, would it?
Bottom line, I don't know. There's info out there that points you both directions.

Well if he were to enroll a year at LSU on his own dime, high school courses wouldn't really matter after a year of college coursework wouldn't it? Also if an NCAA clearing house issue, not LSU then UK isn't an option either, right?

Did anyone hear his coach talk on 104.5 last night? I'm sure he's pissed about the situation, but he was diplomatic about it on the radio. What I found intersting was how hostile the old Redemptorist coach was about the situation. Can anyone shed light on that?

UK may be willing to take a chance that he is cleared - LSU was not.
UK can take that risk to get a 4 -star caliber player, LSU does not need to take the risk so offered a gray shirt

This would be clearer if we knew for certain if LSU was able to back count only 2 instead of 4. If 4, there is no reason not to sign him now. The only thing it could impact is the 85, and I don't think that is a true obstacle.
If only 2 could be backcounted, then he is indeed a risk because we actually would lose a spot in the 25 if he failed to qualify.
The point is if 4 is the answer, then most likely he is being encouraged to leave. He is only a real risk if the answer is 2.

Others may be better versed on the rules, but I think that would make him a "prop," as they used to call them. The SEC does not allow props any more, if I'm not mistaken. You can go part-time while rectifying what made you a non-qualifier, but that usually only works for test scores, not core courses.
Maybe he can go to JT Curtis' house and take the course over again in a way the NCAA likes...or does that only work for Alabama-bound students?

Miles said LSU is done with 2013 guys yesterday (meaning no Priest Willis). That points to them having two back-counters.

I believe the answer is 2, but all the evidence is circumstantial (signed 27, Lawson, rumored grayshirt offer to PW), while the written rules seem to allow 4. Need something more to be definitive.

Not only is the answer 2 but there are severe penalties if we sign anyone else. 3 scholarships and a monetary fine for the HC.

Then why did LSU not recognize this last summer. Wouldn't you think that LSU was right on top of his transcript and helped to guide Lawson on what classes needed to be taken? Lawson has passed every course from the summer through the fall semester. If LSU wasn't sure about a course, they should not have guided Lawson to take that course.
I think the truth is what another poster stated. Lawson was bumped to make room for yesterday's "boom".

It's not the course but the way it was handled and monitored that concerns LSU.

Send him to JT. If he can fast track Lacy, he can do it for anyone.
